Pingtung Academy & Chaoyang Gate Introduction

Pingtung Academy was built in the 20th year of the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty (1815 AD) and is the only academic building in Pingtung. During the Japanese colonial period, it was converted into a Confucius Temple. In front of the academy, there is a façade wall called the "Nine Ren Palace Wall." The interior includes a main hall, an eastern wing, a western wing, and additional left and right wings at the back, making it a relatively complete architectural complex, and it has been designated as a national third-grade historical site. Chaoyang Gate, also known as Ahou City Gate, was constructed with the cooperation of officials and civilians during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty, with four gates built in the east, west, south, and north. However, during the Japanese colonial period, roads were constructed, and now only the East Gate remains in Zhongshan Park. The mottled red brick city walls, combined with the surrounding old trees, further enhances the ancient charm.
