Pingtung Academy & Chaoyang Gate Introduction

Pingtung Academy was established in the 20th year of the Jiaqing era (1815 AD) and is the only academy building in Pingtung. During the Japanese colonial period, it was converted into a Confucius temple. In front of the academy, there is a "Jiuren Palace Wall" screen wall, and it consists of a front hall and a rear hall, along with east and west side rooms. The rear section also has left and right wing rooms, making it a well-preserved architectural structure and classified as a national third-class historical site. Chaoyang Gate, also known as Ah Kou City Gate, was built collaboratively by officials and civilians during the Daoguang period, with four city gates constructed in the east, west, south, and north. However, during the Japanese colonial period, it was demolished to build roads, and now only the East Gate remains in Zhongshan Park. The mottled red brick city wall, combined with the surrounding old trees, adds to the rustic charm.
