Pingtung Academy & Chaoyang Gate Introduction

The Pingtung Academy was built in the 20th year of the Jiaqing era in the Qing Dynasty (1815 AD), and it is the only academy building in Pingtung. During the Japanese occupation, it was converted into a Confucius Temple. A "Jiuren Palace Wall" screen wall is built in front of the academy, which includes the main and rear halls as well as east and west wings, with left and right wing rooms in the rear section, making it a fairly complete architectural structure and designated as a national third-level historic site. Chaoyang Gate, also known as Ah Hou City Gate, was constructed in the Daoguang era of the Qing Dynasty with the cooperation of officials and civilians to build the four city gates in the east, west, south, and north. However, during the Japanese occupation, roads were constructed, and now only the East Gate remains standing in Zhongshan Park. The mottled red brick city wall, combined with the surrounding old trees, further enhances its ancient charm.
