Pingtung Academy & Chaoyang Gate Introduction
Pingtung Academy was built in the 20th year of the Qianlong era (1815), and it is the only academy building in Pingtung. During the Japanese occupation, it was converted into a Confucius Temple. In front of the academy stands the "Jiu Ren Gong Wall" screen wall, with a complete layout consisting of front and back halls and east and west wings, along with left and right side rooms, making it a well-preserved construction and a national designated historic site (level 3). Chaoyang Gate, also known as Ahou City Gate, was built during the Daoguang era in cooperation between the authorities and the people, with a total of four city gates constructed in the east, west, south, and north. However, during the Japanese occupation, due to road construction, only the East Gate remains today, situated within Zhongshan Park. The mottled red brick city wall, complemented by the surrounding ancient trees, further enhances its rustic charm.
