Dayan Village Se Shui Community Introduction

Sesuei Community is located on the west side of the Dayan Tunnel along the Zhongtan Highway, surrounded by mountains. From an aerial view, the terrain resembles a blooming lotus flower valley, with residences distributed at the base of the lotus heart and petals, creating a poetic basin landscape. The name "Sesuei" has two theories: one is that spring water often seeps out in the mountains, which in Taiwanese is called "leak water"; the other theory is that the spring water in this area used to have astringent taste, thus the name "Sesuei". Historically, the community focused on rice cultivation, but in the 1940s, with the rise of "Assam Black Tea", villagers shifted to growing black tea, which became the main industry in the Yuchi area. The soil in the Sesuei Basin is suitable for pottery, and there was an early pottery kiln known as "Huei Tsai Kiln" that produced everyday pottery. However, with the advent of plastic products, the "Huei Tsai Kiln" fell into decline and ceased operations. After the 921 earthquake, residents, with the assistance of the National Taiwan Crafts Research and Development Institute, rebuilt a wood-fired kiln and established a community pottery classroom, creating ceramic art using the local "Bai Xian Tu" clay, which attracted tourists to experience the joys of pottery making. In 2007, the Sesuei Community stood out in the highly competitive national agricultural and fishing village selection and was named one of the top ten classic agricultural and fishing villages. Today, Sesuei is a great place for "drinking black tea, playing with clay, and experiencing ecology", surrounded by mountains and featuring undeveloped valleys, waterfalls, and towering forest paths, each presenting different charms in various weather conditions throughout the day. It integrates homestays, natural forest environments, and plant explanations to develop a forest community, becoming a popular recreational destination for the public.
