Dapeng Bay Sezhu Community Introduction
The Se Shui community is located on the west side of the Dayan Tunnel along Zhongtan Road, surrounded by mountains. From an aerial view, the terrain resembles a blooming lotus flower valley, with residential areas spread out around the heart and petals of the lotus. The scenery of the basin is poetic. There are two accounts for the name "Se Shui": one suggests that spring water often seeps out in this mountainous area, with "seeping water" in Taiwanese Hokkien referred to as "xie shui"; the other explanation is that early on, the spring water in this area had a slightly astringent taste, thus named "Se Shui." Originally, the Se Shui community primarily cultivated rice, but in the 1940s, with the rise of "Assam black tea," villagers shifted to growing black tea, becoming a major industry in the Yuchi area. The soil in the Se Shui basin is suitable for pottery making, and there was an early establishment known as "Hui Zai Kiln," which produced daily-use pottery for a living. However, due to the advent of plastic products, "Hui Zai Kiln" fell into decline and ceased operations. After the 921 earthquake, residents, with the assistance of the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute, rebuilt a wood kiln and established a community pottery classroom, creating art from the "Bai Xian clay" produced in Se Shui. This initiative attracted tourists to experience the joy of pottery making. In 2007, the Se Shui community stood out in a fiercely competitive national selection of agricultural and fishing villages, ranking among the top ten classic agricultural and fishing villages. Today, Se Shui has become a wonderful place to "drink black tea, play with clay, and experience ecology," surrounded by mountains and featuring undeveloped valleys, flowing waterfalls, and towering forests. Each moment of the day offers its own charm, with a combination of homestays, natural forest environments, and plant explanations, developing into a forest community that has become a favored leisure destination for people.
