Beiguan Tidal Park Introduction
One of the eight scenic spots of Lanyang, the hidden paradise of rocky coastal views features spectacular rocky waves, stunning sea and sky vistas, and a panorama of Guishan Island, with trains racing by. To enjoy these beautiful sights all at once, visit the Beiguan Coastal Park! Located in the small town of Toucheng, the park is situated along the northeastern coastline and has become one of the secret spots along the Northern Coast Highway with its rich and magnificent mountain and sea scenery. The park is filled with rugged rocks where you can observe geological landscapes formed over millions of years, such as lone mountains, tofu rocks, and small sea capes. Between the giant stones and mountain ridges, there are steps, trails, and pavilions for sea viewing. The winding pathways lead visitors through a narrow passage flanked by rocks. At the tranquil Coastal Park, sunlight filters through the tree-lined paths, creating a gentle and comfortable ambiance. You can listen to the sound of waves crashing against the rocks while exploring the unique coastal scenery among the rugged stones, which is quite enjoyable. Walking up to the viewing pavilion, you can clearly overlook the Lanyang Plain, the beauty of Guishan Island, and the ocean views of Waiao. Up close, the crashing waves create a magnificent and ever-changing scene. "Beiguan Sea Tides," one of the eight scenic spots of Lanyang, is indeed renowned, and since ancient times, it has inspired the saying, "The key to Lancheng controls the mountain waist, where the snowy waves soar and roar," describing the grandeur of the surging tides. Originally, Beiguan was a checkpoint during the Qing Dynasty, established to prevent bandits from entering Yilan due to its geographical advantage. The park features two ancient cannons that are over a century old, said to have been cast during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, standing resiliently facing the sea, adding to the historical charm of Beiguan. This place is a must-visit for railway enthusiasts and photography aficionados alike, where you can watch trains whiz by between the mountains and the sea. The unbeatable coastal views are photogenic from every angle, especially recommended for photographers to visit during high tide or sunrise when the jagged rocks rise along the coastline, and the tumultuous sea provides the best backdrop for capturing magnificent landscapes.
