Beiguan Tidal Park Introduction

One of the Eight Scenic Views of Lanyang, the Secret Scenic Spot of Rocky Coast and Sea Views offers spectacular rocky waves, stunning sea and sky colors, panoramic views of Guishan Island, and trains speeding by. If you want to enjoy all these beautiful sights at once, come to Beiguan Tidal Park! Located in Toucheng Township, at the northeastern coast, this seaside park boasts rich and magnificent mountain and sea landscapes, becoming one of the hidden gems along the Northern Coastal Highway! The park features numerous rocky formations where visitors can observe geological features shaped by millions of years of erosion, such as the Single-Sided Mountain, Tofu Rock, and Small Cape. Between the giant rocks and the mountains, there are staircases, trails, and pavilions for sea viewing. The winding paths lead visitors through a narrow passage between Twin Rocks. In the tranquil tidal park, sunlight filters through the lined trees, creating a warm and comfortable atmosphere. While listening to the sound of waves crashing against the rocks, visitors can admire the unique coastal scenery among the rugged rocks, offering a distinctive experience. Walking up to the Sea Viewing Pavilion, one can gaze far and wide to clearly see Lanyang Plain, the beauty of Guishan Island, and the seaside views of Wai'ao. Up close, the waves crashing against the shore present a breathtaking and dynamic landscape; "Beiguan Tidal" in the Eight Scenic Views of Lanyang is indeed deserving of its name. There’s a famous line describing the grandeur of the tides: "The key to Lancheng is at the mountain waist, as the snow waves soar, echoing the surging tides." Beiguan originally served as a checkpoint during the Qing Dynasty, known for its terrain that prevented bandits from entering Yilan, and soldiers were stationed here to guard it. Within the park, there are two historic cannons over a hundred years old, said to have been cast during the Jiaqing era, which stand weathered and grand, adding an ancient charm to Beiguan. This spot is also a must-visit for railway enthusiasts and photographers; watching trains whistle past amidst the mountains and sea from the trail’s summit is immensely satisfying! The unbeatable sea views are beautiful no matter how they are captured, and for photographers, it is especially recommended to visit during high tide or sunrise. The rugged coastal boulders and the surging waves provide the perfect backdrop for capturing magnificent scenery.
