Between the giant stones and mountain ridges, there are steps, trails, and pavilions for sea viewing. The winding pathways lead visitors through a narrow passage flanked by rocks. At the tranquil Coastal Park, sunlight filters through the tree-lined paths, creating a gentle and comfortable ambiance. You can listen to the sound of waves crashing against the rocks while exploring the unique coastal scenery among the rugged stones, which is quite enjoyable. Walking up to the viewing pavilion, you can clearly overlook the Lanyang Plain, the beauty of Guishan Island, and the ocean views of Waiao. "Beiguan Sea Tides," one of the eight scenic spots of Lanyang, is indeed renowned, and since ancient times, it has inspired the saying, "The key to Lancheng controls the mountain waist, where the snowy waves soar and roar," describing the grandeur of the surging tides. Originally, Beiguan was a checkpoint during the Qing Dynasty, established to prevent bandits from entering Yilan due to its geographical advantage. The park features two ancient cannons that are over a century old, said to have been cast during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, standing resiliently facing the sea, adding to the historical charm of Beiguan. This place is a must-visit for railway enthusiasts and photography aficionados alike, where you can watch trains whiz by between the mountains and the sea.
