Beiguan Tidal Park Introduction

One of the Eight Scenic Spots of Lanyang, Beiguan Coastal Park is a private paradise featuring stunning rocky ocean views, breathtaking seascapes, a panoramic view of Guishan Island, and trains rushing by. If you want to enjoy all these beautiful sights, come to Beiguan Coastal Park! Located in the small town of Toucheng, along the northeastern coast, this seaside park has rich and magnificent mountain-sea landscapes, making it one of the hidden gems along the North Coast Highway! The park is filled with rocky formations, where you can observe geological features shaped by millions of years of erosion, such as the Monolith, Tofu Rock, and small capes. Between the giant boulders and mountain slopes, there are steps, trails, and pavilions for sea viewing. The winding paths lead visitors through the narrow opening between the dual rocks. In the tranquil Beiguan Coastal Park, the sunlight filtering through the corridor of trees becomes gentle and comfortable. Listening to the sound of waves crashing against the rocks while admiring the unique coastal scenery between the rugged rocks is quite a delightful experience. Walking up to the sea-view pavilion, you can clearly overlook the Lanyang Plain, the scenic Guishan Island, and the views of the sea at Wai'ao. The close-up view of the waves crashing against the shore is spectacular and ever-changing; the "Beiguan Sea Tide," one of the Lanyang Eight Sceneries, is rightly named. This is also reflected in the well-known quote, "Lancheng locks the key at the mountain waist, snow waves soaring with the roaring tide," describing the grandeur of the sea tide. Beiguan was originally a checkpoint during the Qing Dynasty, established to prevent bandits from entering Yilan due to its favorable geography. The park features two ancient cannons over a century old, believed to have been cast during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, standing majestically facing the sea and adding to the park's historical charm. This place is also a must-visit for railway enthusiasts and photography lovers. Watching trains whiz by between the mountains and the sea from the trail's summit is immensely satisfying! The unbeatable coastal views here are beautiful no matter how you shoot them, especially recommended during high tide or sunrise. The towering rocky coastline and surging waves provide the best spots for capturing grand landscapes.
