Beiguan Tidal Park Introduction

One of the Eight Scenic Spots of Lanyang, the Beiguan Tidal Park is a hidden gem featuring spectacular rocky coastal views, stunning blue skies blending with the sea, panoramic views of Guishan Island, and trains racing through the landscape. If you want to enjoy all these beautiful sights at once, come visit Beiguan Tidal Park! Located in the town of Toucheng, along the northeastern coastline, this seaside park boasts rich and magnificent mountain and seascapes, making it one of the hidden attractions along the North Coast Highway. The park is dotted with rocky outcrops where you can observe geological formations such as the Single-Faced Mountain, Tofu Rock, and Small Cape, shaped by millions of years of erosion. Between the giant rocks and the mountains, there are also staircases, trails, and pavilions for sea-viewing, with paths winding up the terrain, guiding visitors through the narrow passage formed by towering rocks. In the tranquil Tidal Park, the sunlight filters softly through the trees, creating a warm and pleasant atmosphere. While listening to the sound of waves crashing against the rocks, visitors can stroll among the rugged boulders and admire the unique coastal scenery, adding to the overall experience. At the observation pavilion atop the hill, you can enjoy a clear view of the Lanyang Plain, the beautiful Guishan Island, and the offshore scenery of Wai'ao. Close up, the crashing waves create a breathtaking scene with ever-changing vistas, proving that "Beiguan Tidal" is well-deserved of its name. This is reflected in the ancient saying, "The key to Lancheng locks the mountain waist, snow waves soar with the sound of roaring tides," which describes the grandeur of the tidal waves. Originally, Beiguan was a checkpoint established during the Qing Dynasty, strategically located to prevent bandits from entering Yilan. The park features two ancient cannons that are said to have been cast during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, standing weathered yet dignified in the face of the sea, adding historical charm to Beiguan. This place is also a must-visit for railway and photography enthusiasts. At the top of the path, watching trains whistle by between the mountains and the sea is immensely satisfying! The breathtaking coastal views here offer perfect photography opportunities, especially at high tide or during sunrise. The rugged coastline with towering boulders and surging waves makes for the best spots to capture dramatic landscape photos.
