Mudan Reservoir Introduction
Mud'an Reservoir is currently the most expensive reservoir in Taiwan, built on a grand scale and constructed using cobblestones. It was created to solve agricultural water needs for residents in the Pingtung South area and support tourism in the Hengchun Peninsula. Completed and put into operation in 1995, the dam is 445 meters long and 145 meters high, gathering water from the upstream of the Ruān Reng Stream and the Mud'an Stream, with a total storage capacity of approximately 31.19 million tons, sufficient to meet the water needs of the Hengchun Peninsula until 2021. The main structure of the dam includes the intake, the dam itself, and the spillway, all of which are impressive in scale. Visitors can go directly to the top of the dam to enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding reservoir area with its blue sea, sky, and green mountains, which is truly refreshing. The magnificent spillway further highlights the greatness of this construction project. On the way to Mud'an Reservoir, you can also admire traditional indigenous buildings and villages, as well as several mountain restaurants offering Paiwan cuisine.
