Ma Mountain Observatory Introduction
Mǎshān, located in Jīnsā Town, is just 2,100 meters from the nearby Jiao Island, and only 1,800 meters during low tide, making it the closest point between Kinmen and Xiamen. Historically, it served as a military stronghold for observing marine activities on the other side, known as the "First Post Under Heaven." Upon entering the observation station, visitors pass through a section of military tunnels equipped with gun emplacements and other military facilities. On clear days, the Hongjian Mountain in Fujian is clearly visible, bringing back memories of its military past and attracting many tourists! The Mǎshān Broadcasting Station, located beside the road leading to the observation station, serves as the front line for psychological warfare communication with mainland China, and is colloquially referred to by locals as the "broadcasting station." The late singer Teresa Teng also broadcasted to the mainland from this station twice. With the passage of time, psychological warfare communications have become unnecessary, and the station now occasionally plays pop music and Taiwanese songs.
