Ma Shan Observatory Introduction
Located in Jinsha Township, Mashan is only 2,100 meters away from Jiao Island across the strait, and during low tide, it is just 1,800 meters away, making it the closest point between Kinmen and Xiamen. In the past, it served as a military fortress to monitor maritime activities on the opposite shore and is known as 'The First Outpost Under Heaven.' Upon entering the observation station's gate, visitors pass through a section of wartime tunnels, which are equipped with military facilities such as gun shelters. On clear days, the Hongjian Mountain in Fujian can be seen clearly, bringing back memories of the past military presence and making it a popular tourist attraction! Next to the Mashan Observation Station is the Mashan Broadcasting Station, similar to the Guningtou Beishan Broadcasting Station, which was on the front line of psychological warfare directed at the mainland, colloquially known by locals as the 'Broadcasting Station.' The late singer Teresa Teng once broadcast to the other side from the Mashan Broadcasting Station on two occasions. With the passage of time, the need for psychological warfare broadcasts has diminished, and now it occasionally plays popular music and Taiwanese songs.
