Peiyue Temple Introduction

Beiyue Temple is located at the foot of Wuhu Mountain in the northeastern corner of Kinmen and is one of the region's long-standing centers of belief. It is said to have been built during the Southern Song Dynasty and originally served as a local temple for protecting the residents of the Shanxi area. During the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, coastal raids by Japanese pirates affected the residences in Shanxi, and Beiyue Temple was also burned down. Although it underwent several restorations afterward, it suffered severe damage again due to strong winds during the late Qing Dynasty. In 1979, with the joint initiatives and donations from the residents of Shanxi and overseas compatriots, a reconstruction project began, and it was completed in 1984, presenting the solemn appearance we see today. The temple primarily enshrines Beiyue Wang Gong and Wang Niang, along with the additional enshrinement of Xing Wang Ye, and it is a popular place of worship revered by local believers. Among the many temples in Kinmen, Beiyue Temple is one of the larger architectural complexes, characterized by its complete structure and grand atmosphere, blending the natural ambiance of mountains and sea, making it an excellent location for exploring Kinmen's religious culture and history.
