Ba Yi Workshop Introduction
This mountain studio, shrouded in mist, has a beautiful name, "Bay," which is an intimate term used by the Paiwan people to refer to "women," embodying the meaning of "dear." This women’s workshop was established after the Morakot typhoon to produce traditional Paiwan clay beads. The Morakot typhoon not only devastated the lives of the people in Jialan but also severely impacted their culture. Feeling that tribal culture was being lost due to the disaster, the women aimed to revitalize the community industry by establishing the "Jialan Bay Workshop" in Jialan community. Thus, a group of mothers living in the tribe began creating handmade clay beads. They established a creative platform similar to a workshop and, under the guidance of Wu Shulun, who has conducted long-term research on Paiwan culture, they began to explore the cultural creativity of the clay bead workshop. They also initiated research related to product design, gradually developing exquisite clay bead craftsmanship that embodies the spirit of indigenous culture.
