Ba Yi Workshop Introduction
This mountain studio, shrouded in mist, has a beautiful name, "Bai Yi." "Bai Yi" is an intimate term used by the Puyuma people to refer to "women," carrying the meaning of "dear." It is a women's workshop established after the Morakot typhoon to produce traditional Puyuma ceramic beads. The Morakot disaster not only severely impacted the livelihoods of the Jialan community but also devastated its culture. Concerned about the cultural loss experienced by the tribe due to the typhoon, the women came together to boost local industry by founding the "Jialan Bai Yi Workshop." Thus, a group of mothers living in the tribe began creating handmade ceramic beads. They established a creative platform similar to a working station and, with the guidance of Wu Shulun, who has long researched Puyuma culture, they began to engage in cultural creativity related to the ceramic bead workshop, initiating research on product design and gradually crafting exquisite ceramic bead art that embodies the spirit of indigenous culture.
