Dong Yi Cheng Nostalgic Grocery Store Introduction

In 1959, founders Kang Wan-sheng and Hsu An-mian (the current owner, Grandma A-mian) opened "Dong Yi Cheng" grocery store, selling various items like tobacco, alcohol, tea, rice, oil, salt, canned fish, daily necessities, candies, and snacks—offering a wider and more diverse selection than today's convenience stores. The peak of Dong Yi Cheng's business was during the 1960s to 1970s, when it also served as the Puli terminal for Changhua Bus, where tickets were purchased for trips from Puli to Lugang. The store enjoyed significant foot traffic and a thriving business. Although modern Taiwanese often turn to convenience stores, PX Mart, or hypermarkets for shopping, they miss out on the warmth of personal interactions. This personal touch is what drives Grandma A-mian to continue running the old store; she enjoys chatting with young customers and checking in on her neighbors. After over 60 years, "Dong Yi Cheng" remains a place that sells not just products, but also warmth and connection! Retail of snacks & souvenirs Features: The only nostalgic grocery store in Puli with a 60-year history, serving as a warm tourist information center. The only post office in Taiwan operating under the name "Dong Yi Cheng," selling Taiwanese stamps and specialty postal booklets.
