Xinxiyuan Frozen Tofu Pudding

Chiayi Foods

Temples are often gathering spots for vendors, and the Xinyuan Jiaying Temple is no exception. However, the stalls are not located right in front of the temple but rather at the entrance of the large archway. "Xinyuan Frozen Tofu Pudding" is one of them. The owner, Wang Wenzhen, has a brother who opened a tofu pudding shop in Kaohsiung in 1995. In 2004, Wang Wenzhen came to Kaohsiung to learn the art of making tofu pudding from his brother and then returned to set up a stall under the archway at the Xinyuan Jiaying Temple. In addition to traditional plain tofu pudding, the shop offers flavors like sweet potato, mung bean, red bean, and barley. Xinyuan Frozen Tofu Pudding emphasizes health, with the tofu pudding made by hand every morning without preservatives. The soybeans are imported from Canada and are non-GMO, with the necessary import certification. The red beans, mung beans, and barley are all cooked on the same day and produced in Taiwan, with pesticide inspection certificates. The sugar syrup is made by simmering TaiSugar granulated sugar for a long time. Wang Wenzhen's frozen tofu pudding does not require crushed ice but is still refreshingly cool because the stall itself is a large refrigerator, a result of his many years of experience selling tofu pudding. In addition to selling tofu pudding, "Xinyuan Frozen Tofu Pudding" also offers mung bean soup, barley soup, and black tea. The tofu pudding uses TaiSugar two-grain sugar, while the mung bean soup and barley soup use TaiSugar special granulated sugar. The black tea leaves are sourced through contracts with tea farmers, which slightly increases costs but ensures quality.
