Daan Library Introduction
Passing by the Luguang Four Villages, this building that resembles a school auditorium, with its red bricks and green window frames, adorned with the words "Zhongzheng Hall," invites passersby to stop and admire. This place was once a cinema known to the local elderly, and in 2011, it was transformed into the Taoyuan City Library Daan Branch, becoming a cultural space that promotes artistic activities. In 1964, the Ministry of National Defense established a cultural and health center here, providing a venue for officers, their families, and Daan residents to enjoy movies. Today, the Daan Library, which carries the life memories of local residents, retains the characteristics of 1950s military industrial architecture. The original ticket booth has been repurposed into a mail delivery and book return area, while the facade facing Chongqing Street features a symmetrical design, complemented by a pebble stone wall, showcasing modern architectural aesthetics through its simple lines. Inside the library, the undulating floor, arranged rows of seating, and the movie projection holes on the walls transport visitors back to the cinema era. The multimedia screening room located in the center of the first floor continues the image of the former cinema. The second floor's restoration display area houses old roof tiles and film projectors from Zhongzheng Hall, with wall panels introducing the history of the restoration. Another highlight of the library—the Fink-style steel frame rooftop—features an intersecting steel structure that adds a retro industrial flair to the old building. Climbing up to the attic and looking down provides a strong sense of visual tension. The two-story high design creates a spacious and pressure-free indoor environment. Besides the reading area, even the window sills are equipped with cushions, allowing visitors to indulge in the vast sea of books anytime and anywhere.
