Aowanda National Forest Recreation Area Introduction

Ouwan National Forest Recreation Area is a charming forest surrounded by golden maple leaves, spectacular suspension bridges, and wildlife. Located behind the Wanda Reservoir at an elevation of 1,100 to 2,600 meters, Ouwan was originally home to the Atayal and Seediq tribes. Hydroelectric power construction began during the Japanese colonial period, and it became a national forest recreation area in 1994. In the Atayal language, "Ouwan" means to delve or enter, signifying "deep into Wanda." Ouwan's reputation for its maple red is second to none in the country, but the park continuously showcases nature's colorful and romantic landscapes through the changing seasons. However, the fame of maple viewing seems to overshadow Ouwan's beauty across all four seasons. Each season has its own elegance, with winter maples, spring cherry blossoms, summer waterfalls, and autumn moons quietly alternating in this comfortable valley, adding vibrant colors in silence. If you have a leisurely spirit and are willing to set aside worldly distractions to grant yourself a refreshing holiday, then you can choose from the beautiful scenery of Ouwan across its four seasons! The maple viewing trails, filled with vast native maple forests, and the bald cypress and green maple around the visitor center, create a riot of colors every autumn, making it the busiest season in Ouwan. Yet the beauty of cherry blossoms in spring is also remarkable. The magnificent Ouwan Suspension Bridge connects the beautiful pine area, stretching 180 meters long and standing 90 meters high, offering a view of the confluence of the South and North Wanda Rivers. It is a must-visit tourist spot when visiting Ouwan!
