Xiangyang National Forest Recreation Area Introduction

Strolling along the winding forest paths surrounded by neatly arranged Taiwan red pines and red cypress trees, you often encounter fellow hikers bearing large backpacks. As you greet each other, a Formosan magpie quietly crosses the path behind you and disappears into the grass, while the calls of fire-crowned flowerpeckers from the treetops continue unabated; this is a common scene when visiting the Xiangyang National Forest Recreation Area. Compared to the renowned Jiaming Lake, the Xiangyang National Forest Recreation Area, located at the 154k mark on the Southern Cross-Island Highway at an elevation of 2,320 meters, is much more understated. It features beautiful artificial forests and gentle walking trails, where you can easily hear the songs of a dozen types of mountain birds and see the treasured Formosan pheasant, as well as the spirited muntjac and goats. It’s a perfect place to enjoy the coolness of high altitude, the neat beauty of artificial forests, and the rich ecology, making it an ideal location for a relaxing half-day trip! Note: The Xiangyang National Forest Recreation Area is currently closed, and reopening dates will be announced later.
