Dongshi District Office Introduction
The historical building, formerly known as the Dongshi District Office during the Japanese colonial period, now serves as the Puzih Branch of the County Police Bureau. It is closely linked to the administrative divisions of present-day Chiayi. This quaint and elegant brick-and-tile structure was originally built in response to the reorganization of local administrative regions during the Taisho era of Japanese rule. At that time, the district office served a dual function of administration and police, featuring a two-story building that included offices, a semicircular detention center, and a grand hall. Despite experiencing the vicissitudes of time, the Dongshi District Office has largely preserved its original appearance and currently serves as the Puzih Police Station. It is also the highest-level government office from the Japanese colonial period still remaining in Chiayi County, imbued with significant historical and cultural meaning.
