Eternal Bridge Introduction
The Tianchang Dijiu Bridge is located in Chukou Village and spans the Bajhang River with two rustic suspension bridges. Situated between the Bajhang River and Duliaoshan, Chukou Village marks the starting point of the Alishan Highway. Built in the 12th year of the Showa era (1937) during the Japanese occupation, it served as an essential bridge connecting Chukou to Chiayi for early local rice farming communities. The Tianchang Dijiu Bridge consists of two different suspension bridges: the lower one is called the Dijiu Bridge, and the higher one is known as the Tianchang Bridge. The Dijiu Bridge runs parallel to County Road 18, while the Tianchang Bridge is located behind Longyin Temple. Here, couples can often be seen strolling hand in hand on the bridge, enjoying the expansive view from its surface. Standing in the middle of the romantic Tianchang Dijiu Bridge feels like being halfway to the sky, overlooking the Bajhang River below. In winter, the water is crystal clear, while in summer, it is tumultuous. Since the opening of the Alishan Highway, the route transitions from a gentle road to a winding, steep mountain path, making it a perfect resting point for travelers. Most visitors take a moment to rest here. The lush mountains behind the bridge and the babbling water beneath create a picturesque rural scene. The refreshing environment and fresh air allow one to completely relax and wash away the fatigue of traveling.
