Eternal Bridge Introduction
The Eternal Bridge, located in Chukou Village, spans the Bajhang Creek with two quaint suspension bridges. Chukou Village, situated between Bajhang Creek and Duliaoshan, is the starting point of the Alishan Highway. Built in the 12th year of the Showa era (1937), it served as a crucial bridge connecting the public rice fields in the area to Chiayi. The Eternal Bridge consists of two different suspension bridges: the lower one is called the Jiu Bridge, and the higher one is the Cháng Bridge. The Jiu Bridge runs parallel to Highway 18, while the Cháng Bridge is situated behind Longyin Temple. Here, couples can often be seen strolling arm in arm on the bridge, enjoying a broader view from above. With its romantic ambiance, standing in the middle of the Eternal Bridge feels like being in a half-dream. Looking down at Bajhang Creek, the water is crystal clear in winter and tumultuous during summer. After the opening of the Alishan Highway, the road shifts from a gentle path to winding and steep mountain roads, making it a popular rest stop. Most travelers take a brief break here. The lush mountains behind the bridge, combined with the gurgling creek below, create a picturesque rural scene. The refreshing environment allows one to breathe in fresh air and wash away the fatigue of travel, providing a complete sense of relaxation.
