Hualien Harbor Water Recreation Area Introduction
Hualien Port Aquatic Recreation Area was originally a warehouse complex of the Hualien Port Authority, which has been repurposed for venues such as the Venus Art Gallery. The aquatic recreation area is not a place for water activities, which can be misleading just by its name. Inside, visitors can see remnants of old railway tracks and get closer to the seawater and boats (perhaps this is the essence of "aquatic"). Nearby, there are Hualien Port Scenic Bridge and the Old Hualien Port Station, where you can watch ships coming in and out of the port. The area is spacious, perfect for walking, exercising, or cycling. On the adjacent scenic bridge, you can observe the train operations at the nearby Hualien Port Station and enjoy views of the Pacific Ocean, making it a great spot for sunrise viewing. Looking south towards the estuary of Hualien River offers an excellent perspective of the entire Hualien Port. A wooden walkway is available alongside the bridge for pedestrians to stroll and enjoy the scenery, with a ramp providing wheelchair access at approximately 90 cm wide. To the left of the circular viewing platform, there is an entrance to the "Aquatic Recreation Area," but be cautious as there are barriers set up. The ramp is long and steep, so it is recommended to use another entrance for driving, which will take you past the Old Hualien Port Station and through a level crossing. The fresh air makes it a relaxing and comfortable leisure spot.
