Sunflower Plaza Introduction
"Sun Square" refers to the place where the first light of dawn rises every day from the Pacific Ocean, which is also the origin of its name, symbolizing a future full of good fortune and hope. Located at Hualien Fishing Port, it is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, the whale-watching pier, Hualien Fishing Market, and the Hualien District Fishermen's Association. The square features the Pacific Love Tower, the closest tower to the Pacific Ocean, offering a broad view of the Pacific, Coastal Mountain Range, Central Mountain Range, and the Hualien Harbor scenery. On days with high waves, you can witness the spectacular sight of waves crashing against the breakwater. Sun Square is centered on "ocean culture" and collaborates with the National Academy of Marine Research, whale-watching operators, and local artisans to connect the continuous coastline over hundreds of kilometers and create the Pacific Corridor. In the northern exhibition area, artist Chen Sheng-wen uses discarded materials collected from mountains and beaches to create a large whale artwork over 10 meters long using embroidery and weaving techniques. The regularly held marketplace allows travelers to visit handmade stalls while enjoying the sound of the waves and appreciating marine art, bringing the oceanic characteristics of the site to life. Sun Square is decorated with vibrant colors, making the Southern European-style town even more vivid, with colorful huts reflecting on the fishing port's water surface, creating a particularly dreamy scene! In addition to 3D murals and the whale-watching pier, the square's excellent location welcomes the first light of dawn rising from the Pacific Ocean every day. The architecture in the square presents a Southern European style, with pointed roofs and red, yellow, and blue houses contrasting with the colorful geometric patterns on the ground, creating a unique blend of Eastern and Western influences that fosters a relaxed vacation atmosphere. The main venue at Sun Square, managed by the Hualien District Fishermen's Association, showcases strong Southern European architectural features, leaving a lasting impression on visitors. Beyond the European-style buildings, the square's walls feature meticulously planned 3D colorful paintings with various lively designs, inviting visitors to interact and take photos to capture the beauty of their travels.
