Sakura Trail Introduction

The trail is open for information; please see the Hualien Branch of the Forestry and Nature Conservation Administration for the latest news. Due to insufficient ore from the Zakou mining area, Taiwan Cement Corporation abandoned the mining operation at Zakou and returned the mining area to the Forestry Bureau. After halting mining activities and closing the mountain, Mount Saporak has regained its original appearance. In 2003, the Forestry Bureau began planning the current trail, minimizing damage to nature so that visitors can still see a more primitive ecological environment. The Zakou Trail is located on Mount Saporak, which sits at the eastern foothills of the Central Mountain Range, reaching a height of 495 meters, making it the oldest geological formation in Taiwan. The observation and resting platform at the top of the Zakou Trail offers a panoramic view where the sky and water meet in harmony, creating a picturesque scenery that calms the mind and spirit. The Zakou Waterfall, approximately three stories high, has a moderate flow, and below the waterfall, there is a rocky platform for enjoying a natural spa, washing away daily fatigue, or absorbing negative ions beside the waterfall, allowing the body and mind to fully relax.
