Martyrs' Shrine Introduction
- Attraction Introduction - The Keelung Martyrs' Shrine is located on the hillside of Zhongzheng Park. It was originally built as the "Keelung Shrine" during the Japanese colonial period, and after Taiwan's retrocession, it was transformed into a martyrs' shrine to eliminate the memories of the colonial era and commemorate national heroes. The shrine adopts a traditional Chinese palace architectural style, featuring soaring eaves and striking red columns, standing gracefully amidst lush forests and buildings. The atmosphere is solemn yet not oppressive, making it a site of both historical and spiritual significance. - Attraction Features - The shrine pays tribute to soldiers, police, and firefighters who sacrificed their lives for the country, as well as heroes who stepped forward to protect their homeland throughout different eras. Their bravery and dedication are honored within this shrine. During significant festivals like Qingming and Double Tenth, solemn ceremonies are held here by both governmental and civic organizations to pay respects to the ancestors. The red silhouette of the shrine is concealed within the lush mountains and concrete jungle, appearing particularly prominent among the shadows of trees from a distance. Approaching it slowly evokes a profound sense of respect. As one ascends the stone steps, each step seems to become a passageway for dialogue with history, allowing visitors to walk piece by piece into the memories of the past. While walking in the vicinity, words are unnecessary; one only needs to quietly feel the weight of history with their feet and heart. - Recommended Activities - The Martyrs' Shrine is located within Zhongzheng Park, and it is recommended to plan a half-day itinerary. Starting from the Hsin Er Air Raid Shelter, take the elevator or climb the steps of the Zhongzheng Park archway to reach the fan-shaped plaza, where the stairs on the right lead to the Martyrs' Shrine. After visiting, it is suggested to follow the left-side mountain path to visit the Keelung Pagoda, the Jilong Zhongyuan Cultural Museum, and Zhongzheng Park. In this mountainous area, visitors can enjoy views of Keelung City while experiencing a tranquil and calming atmosphere.
