Fo Guang Shan Buddha Memorial Center Introduction
Fo Guang Shan Jile Temple is located in the Xinyi District of Keelung City, serving as a multifunctional venue that encompasses culture, art, social education, dharma propagation, and group practice, while blending tradition with modernization. There is a parking lot across the street, with the Ministry of Health and Welfare's Keelung Hospital to the east, the Zhonglie Shrine to the west, Zhongzheng Park to the north, and the Tianliao River to the south, making it the administrative and cultural center of Keelung City, easily accessible by various transportation options, surrounded by beautiful natural scenery. Jile Temple is built according to the mountain terrain, with its golden roof tiles shimmering in the sunlight. During the rainy season, it creates a sense of widespread dharma water. The architectural structure is eight stories high, towering majestically over the bustling commercial street, appearing both harmonious and solemn. In the center of the mountain gate stands a smiling Maitreya Buddha, witnessing the character of joy and care that has been present since the temple's founding by Master Hsing Yun. Within and around the temple, flowers and trees flourish, creating a serene and beautiful environment that provides a place for modern individuals to relax their body, mind, and spirit. The predecessor of Jile Temple, named "Guangzun Temple," was founded during the Japanese colonial era in 1905 and was later taken over by Fo Guang Shan, undergoing reconstruction that was completed in 1991. It is the largest temple of Fo Guang Shan in northern Taiwan, featuring a modern style without losing its traditional roots. In addition to general Zen halls, lecture halls, and libraries, it also includes social education facilities, a vegetarian restaurant, and various hardware and software amenities. The exterior of the Main Shrine is majestic and solemn, while the Buddha statue and the murals inside are harmoniously integrated, often bringing a sense of peace to the worshippers. On the right side of the entrance, there is a stone Guanyin statue in the flowerbed, along with the smiling Maitreya Buddha at the mountain gate, frequently visited by devout believers and passersby who come to pay their respects. This temple, embodying both ancient and modern elements, integrating legal affairs, culture, and education, is highly revered by the people of the Keelung area.
