Lover's Lake Park Introduction
Love Lake Park is located on the hillside of Dawulun Mountain in the western suburbs of Keelung City, formed by the convergence of six small streams. It is the only highland lake in Keelung. Although the lake is not very wide, its scenery is exquisite and beautiful, exuding charm akin to a lovely lady. The surrounding area is densely wooded, with emerald green waters, picturesque mountains and reflections, and fresh, invigorating air. In spring and summer, the area is filled with the sounds of insects and birds, colorful butterflies fluttering, and migratory birds, making it worth a visit for those wishing to connect with nature. Love Lake was originally named "Wuchabei" and was renamed due to the Taiwan Salvation Army's frequent activities held here. Another explanation for the name "Love Lake" arises from the presence of two interconnected lakes—one large and one small—symbolizing lovers who support one another. This romantic connection also contributes to a beautiful legend that claims the Lovers' Bridge over Love Lake has a special magical power; couples who walk hand-in-hand across the bridge will find good fortune in their romantic relationships. Because of this lovely legend, many newlyweds come here to take wedding photos, and the uniquely shaped windmills by Love Lake add to the area's aesthetic appeal. The lake area features facilities such as viewing pavilions, Lovers' Suspension Bridge, scenic waterfront platforms, windmills, and hiking trails around the mountains and lake. The trails are lined with lush trees, while various plants showcase the beauty of the four seasons. Visitors can enjoy a phytoncide forest bath and admire the enchanting lake and mountain views, creating a poetic atmosphere. Heading north toward Love Lake, there is a trail that leads up to the coastal ridgeline, where visitors can gaze at the ocean, with views of Aodi Fishing Port nearby and the distant Keelung Islet and Yehliu Peninsula, providing an uplifting and refreshing experience. To the east of Love Lake lies Fort Ilan Mountain, the highest peak in the vicinity and a historically significant area. The Dawulun Fort (a national historic site) located at the summit was built during the Qing Dynasty and is one of the important monuments from the Sino-French War. Many of its surrounding walls and related structures have been well preserved, and the old banyan trees entwined around them add to the area's historic charm.
