Dawulun Fort Introduction

Dawulun Battery is located northwest of Keelung, on the Dawulun Mountain behind the Wai86mushan Fishing Port, above the Lover's Lake. Due to its strategic terrain, it served as an important stronghold guarding the western side of Keelung Harbor. During the Daoguang period in 1840, during the First Opium War, and in the 10th year of the Guangxu period in 1884, during the Sino-French War, the Qing government stationed troops there. However, based on its structure and design features, it appears to be a result of modifications made during the Japanese colonial period. Dawulun Battery is a national historic site located at the peak of Dawulun Mountain, at an elevation of 231 meters, which offers a commanding view of Lover's Lake to the west, Dawulun Bay to the north, and Keelung Harbor and the East China Sea to the east. The entrance to the battery area features a stone path lined with tree shade and fallen leaves. Upon reaching the battery area at the mountain peak, visitors can still see the stone structures of the battery, including the gun platform, ammunition storage room, transport battery, and mechanical ramp. Although the cannons are no longer present, clear traces of the gun mounts remain on the ground. The ruins of Dawulun Battery are well-preserved, including the main entrance path, cave barracks, eastern ridge fortress, northern ridge fortress, southern ridge fortress, bulletproof trench, and reservoir. The area is tranquil and surrounded by lush greenery. Standing on the short wall of the circular path, one can enjoy a panoramic view of Keelung Islet, the Wai86mushan Fishing Village, Badouzi, and the beautiful scenery of the north coast. It is a great place for sightseeing and intimate conversations, making it a popular choice for wedding photography, adding to its romantic charm. Source: Keelung City Government
