Houtong Coal Mine Cultural Museum Introduction

Houtong was once the leading coal-producing area in Taiwan, with thousands of miners working here during its heyday, supporting their families and contributing to the national economic development. This period that relied on coal mining is undoubtedly Houtong's most significant past. To preserve the historical memory of coal mining in Taiwan, retired miners established the Houtong Coal Mine Cultural and Historical Museum in 2019 at the former Ruins of the No. 3 Coal Mine, using the silhouette of a miner as its identifying symbol, guiding visitors back to Houtong's black gold era.
