Diao Mountain Ancient Trail (Wuyuan Cemetery Hiking Trail) Introduction
Diao Mountain Ancient Trail, also known as the "Wuyuan Tomb Hiking Trail," is approximately 2,700 meters long. Friends can invite each other to stroll along the trail, not only for physical exercise but also to appreciate the beauty of the green mountains and the grass waves in the fragrant forest valleys, while evoking feelings of nostalgia. In spring, flowers bloom abundantly among the cliffs, creating a stunning scene that attracts visitors, and poets of old referred to it as "Diao Mountain Spring Scenery." The construction of Diao Mountain Ancient Trail began in 1898, during the 31st year of the Meiji era, when gold was discovered in the streams. This led to the exploration of the gold veins from Ruifang through Shumeiping Mountain to Shuangxi's Mudan Valley, resulting in a mining rush. A convenient road for transporting minerals was built, along with facilities such as a mining office and a medical station. This road became essential for the ancestors traveling between Ruifang and Jiufen and Shuangxi and Mudan for trade and work, with a constant flow of pedestrians. Romantic and enchanting legends, such as the story of the Wuyuan Tomb, emerged from these mountains, with multiple versions of the tale existing. Unlike the Jinzibei Ancient Trail, this ancient path offers no shelter, so visitors should take precautions against sun exposure.
