Diao Mountain Ancient Trail (Wuyuan Cemetery Hiking Trail) Introduction
Diao Mountain Old Trail, also known as the "Wuyuan Funeral Mountaineering Trail," is approximately 2,700 meters long. It's a popular path for friends to hike together, providing both physical exercise and a chance to enjoy the beauty of lush green mountains and flowing grass in a tranquil forest valley, evoking feelings of nostalgia for the past. In spring, the cliffs bloom with vibrant flowers, creating a stunning spectacle that attracts many visitors, and poets of old referred to it as "The Spring Colors of Diao Mountain." The construction of Diao Mountain Old Trail dates back to the 31st year of Meiji (1898), when gold was discovered in the streams, leading miners upstream from Ruifang Shumeiping Mountain to Shuangxi Mudan Keng Mountain, thus revealing gold veins. This led to a rush of miners and the establishment of a convenient road for transporting minerals, as well as the construction of mining offices and medical stations. The trail became a vital route for the ancestors traveling for trade and work between Ruifang, Jiufen, Shuangxi, and Mudan. In the past, it was bustling with pedestrians, and various legends emerged from the mountains, including the story of the Wuyuan Funeral, with multiple versions in existence. Unlike the Jinzibei Old Trail, this trail has no cover along the way, so visitors should remember to take sun protection measures when planning a visit.
