Three-Pound Bike Path Introduction
"The Three Caves" refers to the Taiwanese pronunciation meaning "three mountain caves," named for the three railway tunnels (Yuan Shan No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 tunnels) that are connected. It is a newly developed bicycle path in Houtong. The Three Caves is located next to the Fuzhu Tunnel, by the banks of the Keelung River. The nearby river area was once known as Zhuzi Pond. Not far across the river is the famous Yuan Shanzi Flood Diversion Channel. You can also see the silhouette of the ancient Fuan Temple, a local earth god temple, above the inflow of the Yuan Shan Flood Diversion Channel. Due to its somewhat remote location, it appears desolate and carries a sense of history. The stone walls at the tunnel entrance are covered with green moss and lichen. The first two tunnels are short and bright, where you can leisurely stroll and admire the old brickwork inside. Between the second and third tunnels, there is a small observatory platform with a place to sit and rest. The third tunnel is longer and curved, making the entire route a great place to enjoy a cool breeze while riding a bicycle.
