Tōshō Shrine Guandi Temple Introduction
The Dongzhao Mountain Guandi Temple originated from the Wengfang Society Mingde Hall in Xinxing District, Kaohsiung City. Due to the increasing number of worshippers, a new site was selected in Xiaoping Village, Dashi Township to build the temple, which was completed in 1990. The temple is dedicated to the golden statue of Guansheng Emperor, and also houses the God of Wealth and other deities. Inside the hall, dozens of paintings depicting the exploits of Guandi are displayed, resembling a reading of the history of the Three Kingdoms. The imposing 36-foot statue of Guandi standing on the worshippers’ building adds to its grandeur. Xiaoping Village is situated at a high altitude with excellent views; on clear days, one can overlook the Kaohsiung urban area. The green tunnel road in front of the temple is tranquil and refreshing, making it popular not only with worshippers but also with cyclists.
