Zhuliou Waterworks Station Introduction
The Zhu Liao Water Intake Station, completed and put into operation in 1913, is located by the Xia Danshui River (now known as the Kaoping River) in the Dashu District. It has been in use for over a century, continuing its significance as an important historical heritage of Taiwan's waterway facilities. The main building is a Western-style architecture from the Japanese colonial period, featuring red brick walls, arched facades, and striking green window frames. The machine room and maintenance workshop have a large-span wooden structure that accommodates modern pumping equipment. The architectural style is influenced by early 20th-century European modern design, making it unique. The water intake station not only provides abundant irrigation water sources for agriculture in the Dashu District but also serves as the heart of the earliest drinking water system in the Kaohsiung area. It is a revolutionary and universally significant architectural project in the history of Kaohsiung's urban development and has been designated as a historic site by the municipality.
