Yuanli Wind Surfing Introduction
1. Since its establishment in 2014, the Yuanli Sea Breeze team has been composed of interdisciplinary youth who are deeply engaged in Yuanli Township, Miaoli County. By combining local cultural resources with an international perspective, they have developed experiential services that incorporate historical depth and cultural connotations. As the first independent bookstore in Yuanli Township and an important cultural hub of the Miaoli coastal area, the team promotes three ways of reading: 1. Reading books with sound: Organizing diverse author talks and activities to attract lovers of culture, art, and social issues. 2. Reading the land's texture with feet: Exploring the music of Guo Zhiyuan, rush weaving techniques, and local markets, connecting history with everyday life. 3. Reading the local flavors with taste buds: Focusing on Yuanli's agriculture to understand environmental friendliness and cultural value. 2. The cultural and local revitalization team holds major cultural events each year. The "Sea Breeze Season" brand has accumulated 80 stalls over three years, attracting over 10,000 participants, thus becoming an important platform for local revitalization. They have also organized environmentally sustainable sessions of the Yuanli Night Market and the Yuanli Hundred Ghosts Children’s Festival, creatively combining sustainability concepts to engage participants of various ages, promoting the revitalization and inheritance of local culture. 3. To protect cultural heritage and revitalize local characteristics, the team actively promotes the preservation of cultural assets, assisting in the maintenance and revitalization of the former residence of the pioneer of modern music in Taiwan, Guo Zhiyuan. They present lesson plans themed on Guo Zhiyuan in an immersive theater format, using drama education to introduce local culture to high school students in the community. Furthermore, they promote rush weaving techniques and the revitalization and reuse of the Yuanli market, giving new vitality to local industries. The team has collaborated with rush weaving artisans to exhibit in the Netherlands and New York, and has participated in numerous international conferences, presenting Yuanli's music, crafts, and landscapes on the international stage, allowing more people to experience the charm of local culture. 4. In the sustainable practice of linking agriculture and public welfare, the "Teach Taro Project" connects non-toxic taro with agriculture and public welfare. Through sales, profits are returned to farmers and social programs to improve farmers' income, enhance consumer food safety, and support social welfare volunteers and educational needs. Additionally, the "Sea Breeze Scholarship," established in 2023, focuses on "community participation," "environmental care," and "sustainable coasts," helping high school students explore their hometowns and themselves, becoming active participants in their communities. 5. The team participates in the participatory budgeting program for children in Yuanli Township, designing activities to inspire children's civic awareness and sense of belonging to their hometown. Simultaneously, they engage in Miaoli County's "Rural Craft and Women's Entrepreneurship" program, successfully assisting middle-aged women in developing entrepreneurial skills, empowering nearly 50 individuals and providing them with opportunities for economic and social participation. The team has received numerous accolades over the years, including the Youth Action Grand Prize from the Ministry of Culture, the Social Innovation Award from the Ministry of Culture, the Changemaker Gold Award from the Ministry of Education's Youth Development Agency, the Local Revitalization Youth Empowerment Workstation from the National Development Council, the Community Contribution Award from Shopping Design, and recognition as one of La Vie's 100 Creative Teams in Taiwan.
