Heart Sculpture Studio Introduction
Located in Xiping Village, Yuanli, Heart Sculpture House is a stone house near the seaside, where the late artist Chen Chiong-Hui created his works. He was awarded the Cultural Heritage Preservation Award by the Executive Yuan and, in 1973, established the "Mountain Gate Carving Society." Sharp tools and heavy wooden mallets intertwine to evoke the primal life of wood, and every stroke by Chen Chiong-Hui reflects the essence of indigenous traditional art. The stone carvings at the entrance of Heart Sculpture House express a rustic wildness, with large stones forming the walls of two hundred-step snakes, showcasing the true spirit of primitive art. The stone columns on the right side of the main entrance, the primitive pavilion on the left, and the garden scenery piled with original wooden mortars add a touch of antiquity to Heart Sculpture House; inside, it is a display place for the works of Chen Chiong-Hui and his students. His works are deeply influenced by the cultures of the Paiwan and Rukai tribes, primarily featuring subjects such as humans, snakes, deer, and pigs. His carving methods and artistic forms are unique, stripping away practical purposes and enhancing the qualities of art, making it worth exploring.
