Heart Sculpture House Introduction
Located in Xiping Li, Yuanli, the Heart Sculpture Residence is a stone house close to the sea, where the late artist Chen Jiong-hui created his works. He was awarded the National Culture and Arts Foundation's Heritage Award and established the "Mountain Gate Carving Society" in 1973. With sharp knives and heavy wooden mallets, he brought out the primal life of wood; every stroke of Chen's chisel revealed the charm of indigenous traditional art. The stone carvings at the entrance of the Heart Sculpture Residence express a rustic wildness, with large stones forming the walls of two hundred-step snakes, showcasing the essence of primitive art. The stone columns on the right side of the main entrance, the primitive pavilion on the left, and the garden landscape adorned with traditional wooden mortars add a touch of antiquity to the Heart Sculpture Residence. Inside the house, it serves as a gallery for the works of Chen Jiong-hui and his students. His works are deeply influenced by the cultures of the Paiwan and Rukai peoples, primarily featuring themes of people, snakes, deer, and pigs. His carving techniques and artistic forms are unique, removing practical purposes and enhancing artistic qualities, making it worth exploring.
