Yongzheng Temple Introduction
Yongzheng Temple is located in the Tianliao Village of Toufen City, just over a kilometer from Zhunan Township. The temple, majestic yet simple, is shaded by ancient banyan trees, creating a peaceful environment. It was established in the third year of the Xianfeng reign (1853) by Xu Yingjian, a prominent scholar of the Qing Dynasty. After its completion, the temple underwent a significant spiritual presence, attracting worshippers from Toufen, Sanwan, Nanzhuang, Emei, Beipu, Zaoqiao, Zhunan, as well as residents of Hsinchu and Miaoli, fostering a sense of goodwill among the community. The temple mainly enshrines the Heavenly Mother, with a solemn statue of Mazu in the inner hall. To the right is a grand statue of Guanzhaozun Wang, the guardian deity of Quanzhou immigrants, reflecting the diverse backgrounds of Yongzheng Temple's devotees from both Min and Cantonese origins. To the left is the statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva, alongside the statue of Fāmiàoxiān Rén, which is quite rare among Mazu temples in Taiwan. The side halls enshrine Wen Chang Di Jun, Fude Zheng Shen, and Changsheng Lu. The temple interior is adorned with brilliant gold decor and intricate carvings. Three important annual festivals are held: - Lunar Calendar February 23: Birthday of the Heavenly Mother. - Lunar Calendar April 8: Mazu’s Procession. - Lunar Calendar July 15: Zhongyuan Festival.
