Yongzheng Temple Introduction
Yongzheng Temple is located in Tianliao Village, Toufen City, just over a kilometer away from Zhunan Township. The temple is grand yet unpretentious, with ancient banyan trees providing shade, set in a tranquil environment. It was initiated by Xu Yingjian, a grand scholar of the Qing Dynasty, in the third year of the Xianfeng era (1853). After its completion, the divine spirit shone brightly, attracting worshippers from Toufen, Sanwan, Nanzhuang, Emei, Beipu, Zaoqiao, Zhunan, as well as residents from Hsinchu and Miaoli, leading the community to embrace goodness. The temple primarily enshrines the Heavenly Mother, with a solemn statue of Mazu in the inner hall. To the right is the statue of Guangze Zunwang, which is tall and majestic, a guardian deity of Quanzhou immigrants, indicating that the followers of Yongzheng Temple come from both Fujian and Cantonese backgrounds. To the left is the statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva, and beside the Mazu statue is the deity Fajiaoxian, which is a rare and pioneering practice among Mazu temples in Taiwan. The side halls house the statues of Wenchang Dijun, Fude Zhengshen, and Changsheng Luxi. The interior is adorned with shimmering golden decorations, and the various carvings are intricately crafted. Important festival activities are held three times a year: February 23 (Lunar Calendar) - Birthday of the Heavenly Mother; April 8 (Lunar Calendar) - The Mother’s Procession; July 15 (Lunar Calendar) - Zhongyuan Festival.
