Yongzheng Temple Introduction
Yongzheng Temple is located in Tianliao Village, Toufen City, just over a kilometer away from Zhunan Township. The temple is grand yet unpretentious, with ancient banyan trees providing shade and a notably tranquil environment. Xu Yingjian, a high-ranking scholar of the Qing Dynasty, initiated the construction of Yongzheng Temple in the third year of the Xianfeng era (1853). After its completion, the holy spirit shone brightly, and residents from Toufen, Sanwan, Nanzhuang, Emei, Beipu, Zaoqiao, Zhunan, as well as those from Hsinchu and Miaoli, came to worship, fostering a communal spirit towards goodness. The temple primarily enshrines Ma Zu, and within the inner hall, the statue of Ma Zu presents a majestic demeanor. To the right is a grand statue of Guangze Zunwang, a guardian deity of Quanzhou immigrants, indicating that the temple's followers come from both Fujian and Guangdong backgrounds. To the left is a statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva, alongside a rare enshrined status of Fa Miao Xianren, making this temple unique among Mazu temples in Taiwan for having this designation. The side halls enshrine Wen Chang Di Jun, Fu De Zheng Shen, and Chang Sheng Lu Wei. The interior is decorated with dazzling golden embellishments, and the various carvings are exquisitely crafted. Important ceremonial activities are held three times a year: February 23 in the lunar calendar - Birthday of the Holy Mother; April 8 in the lunar calendar - The Mother’s Procession; July 15 in the lunar calendar - Zhongyuan Festival.
