Yongzheng Temple Introduction
Yongzheng Temple is located in Tianliao Village, Toufen City, just over a kilometer from Zhunan Township. The temple is grand yet modest, with ancient banyan trees providing shade in a serene environment. In the third year of the Xianfeng era (1853), Qing dynasty scholar Xu Yingjian, styled Fengnan, initiated the construction of Yongzheng Temple. After its completion, it became a site of divine presence, attracting worshippers from Toufen, Sanwan, Nanzhuang, Emei, Beipu, Zaoqiao, Zhunan, as well as Hsinchu and Miaoli, guiding the community toward goodness. The temple primarily worships Goddess Mazu, with a solemn statue of her in the inner hall. On the right, there is a magnificent statue of the Emperor Guangze, a guardian deity from Quanzhou, indicating that Yongzheng Temple is inclusive of devotees from both Fujian and Cantonese backgrounds. To the left is a statue of Guanyin, and beside Mazu's statue is the enshrined deity Famiaoxianren, which is quite rare as few Mazu temples in Taiwan have this deity. The side halls enshrine Wenchang Dijun, the God of Wealth, and the God of Longevity. The interior of the temple is dazzling, with exquisitely crafted sculptures. Major annual celebrations are held three times: the birthday of the Holy Mother on the 23rd day of the 2nd lunar month, the goddess's procession on the 8th day of the 4th lunar month, and the Zhongyuan Festival on the 15th day of the 7th lunar month.
