Old Gun Cabinet Trail Introduction
The Old Gun Cabinet Trail is located in Beipu Village, Sanwan Township, with a total length of about 1.5 kilometers. The trail has a gentle slope and is mostly shaded by trees, making it a cool and comfortable walking path. The word "銃" (chòng) in Taiwanese has the same pronunciation as "槍" (qiāng), which refers to a type of old weapon similar to a gun. From the name Old Gun Cabinet, it indicates that this area was once an ammunition depot for storing firearms, a military stronghold used by Han settlers to arm themselves and defend their homes during the period of land development. The route of the Old Gun Cabinet Trail generally follows the mountain ridge and later became a transportation road for local agricultural products. As modern roads were gradually constructed, this ancient path fell into disuse and obscurity. It has since been renovated and rebuilt, utilizing natural ecological methods to lay the pathway while preserving the original dirt surface. Along the trail, one can find camphor trees, acacia trees, and bamboo forests, with the romantic falling petals of the tung blossom season, making it a scenic natural trail.
