Old Gun Cabinet Trail Introduction
The Old Gun Cabinet Trail is located in Beipu Village, Sanwan Township, with a length of approximately 1.5 kilometers. The trail has a gentle slope and mostly runs through shaded areas, making it a cool and comfortable walking path. The word "銃" (gun) in Taiwanese is pronounced the same as "槍" (firearm), referring to an old type of weapon similar to a gun. The name "Old Gun Cabinet" indicates that this area was once an ammunition depot for storing firearms, serving as a military stronghold for Han immigrants who armed themselves to defend their homes during the period of land reclamation. The trail generally follows the ridge line and later became a route for transporting local agricultural products. As modern roads were gradually constructed, the ancient path fell into disuse and obscurity. It was later renovated and rebuilt using natural ecological techniques to maintain the original dirt surface, accompanied by camphor trees, acacia trees, and bamboo groves. During the tung flower season, petals flutter romantically, making it a beautifully scenic nature trail.
