Old Gun Cabinet Trail Introduction

The Old Gun Cabinet Trail is located in Beipu Village, Sanwan Township, and is approximately 1.5 kilometers long. The elevation changes are minimal, and much of the trail winds through shaded areas, making it a cool and comfortable path. The character "銃" is pronounced the same as "槍" in Taiwanese, referring to an old-style weapon similar to a gun. The name "Old Gun Cabinet" indicates that this area was once an armory for storing firearms, serving as a military stronghold for the Han settlers who armed themselves to protect their homes while developing the mountainous region. The trail generally follows the ridge line and later became a route for transporting local agricultural products. As modern roads were gradually established, this ancient path lost its function and fell into obscurity. Eventually, it was renovated and rebuilt, utilizing natural ecological methods to maintain the original dirt surface. Along the way, you can find camphor trees, acacia trees, and bamboo groves, and during the tung flower season, the petals flutter romantically, making it a visually stunning natural trail.
