Old Gun Cabinet Trail Introduction

The Old Gun Cabinet Trail is located in Beipu Village, Sanwan Township, with a total length of about 1.5 kilometers. The trail features a gentle incline and mainly runs through shaded areas, making it a cool and comfortable walking path. The word "gun" in Taiwanese is pronounced the same as "gun" in Mandarin, referring to an old-style weapon similar to a gun. The name "Old Gun Cabinet" indicates that this area once served as an ammunition depot for storing firearms, which were used by Han settlers to defend their homes during the development of the mountains and forests at that time. The route of the Old Gun Cabinet Trail roughly follows the ridge and later became a road for transporting local agricultural products. As modern roads gradually opened up, this ancient path fell into disuse and was forgotten. Eventually, it was renovated and reconstructed, incorporating natural ecological methods for paving while maintaining the original dirt surface. Along the way, visitors can enjoy the company of camphor trees, acacia trees, and bamboo groves. During the tung flower season, the falling petals create a romantic scene, making it a beautiful natural trail.
