Old Gun Cabinet Trail Introduction

The Lao Chonggui Trail is located in Beipu Village, Sanwan Township, with a length of approximately 1.5 kilometers. The trail has gentle slopes and mainly runs through areas shaded by trees, making it a cool and comfortable walking path. The word "銃" (Chong) is pronounced the same as "槍" (gun) in Taiwanese, referring to an old-style weapon similar to a gun. The name Lao Chonggui indicates that this area was once an ammunition depot for storing firearms, serving as a military stronghold for the Han settlers to defend their homes during the development of the mountains and forests. The trail generally follows the ridge line, later becoming a route for transporting local agricultural products. As modern roads were gradually established, this old path lost its function and fell into disuse. It has since been renovated and rebuilt, incorporating natural ecological construction methods while maintaining the original dirt surface. Along the way, visitors can enjoy the companionship of camphor trees, acacia trees, and bamboo groves. During the tung blossom season, the falling petals create a romantic and picturesque scene, making it a beautiful natural trail.
