Old Gun Cabinet Trail Introduction

The Old Gun Cabinet Trail is located in Beipu Village, Sanwan Township, with a length of approximately 1.5 kilometers. The elevation changes are not steep, and much of the trail is shaded by trees, making it a cool and comfortable walking path. The character "銃" (gun) is pronounced the same as the character for "gun" in Taiwanese, referring to an old type of weapon similar to a firearm. The name "Old Gun Cabinet" indicates that this place used to be an ammunition depot for storing firearms, which was a military stronghold used by Han settlers to protect their homes while developing the mountains and forests. The trail mainly follows the ridge line and later became a transportation route for local agricultural products. As modern roads gradually opened, the functionality of this ancient path diminished, leading to its decline and obscurity. After renovations and reconstruction, the trail was restored using natural ecological methods, maintaining its original dirt surface, and is lined with camphor trees, acacia trees, and bamboo groves. During the tung flower season, petals flutter romantically, making it a beautiful natural trail.
