Liu's Residence Yuemei Pond Introduction
The Liu family of Shetou Yuemei originated from Nanjing County, Zhangzhou, Fujian. The eleventh generation ancestor, Tianji Gong, crossed the sea to Taiwan during the middle of the Kangxi era, first arriving in the Jiayi Dagu (present-day Minxiong) area, until the twelfth generation ancestor, Yichou Gong, moved to reclaim land at the current Shetou Yuemei Pond.
The堂號 of the Liu family at Yuemei is "Reunion Hall." The main hall serves as an ancestral hall to honor the ancestors of generations. In front of the hall, there is a large fish pond, which is also known as Yuemei Pond due to its shape resembling Yuemei. The architectural layout of the Liu residence faces the water and is backed by a mountain, symbolizing the gathering of wealth and energy. The front yard of the main hall can be used as a space for drying rice during the harvest season.
