Changhua: Taiwan Glove Museum Introduction
The Glove Museum is located in the Shetou Sock Industry Park, featuring a unique glove-shaped building designed by the glove expert, Mr. Chen. The museum also integrates various personal creations, allowing travelers to not only understand the glove industry but also appreciate different artworks. Surrounding fruit orchards and the circular high-speed rail can be viewed from the observation deck on the third floor. Through interactive DIY activities, visitors can learn about the basic glove manufacturing process. The founder, Mr. Chen Yi-yi, was born in Yilan and graduated from the National Formosa University of Technology. His first job was as a designer at the then-leading glove manufacturer "Li Chuan Company," where he later became the head of the R&D department, production manager, and eventually factory manager. He then founded "Yi Zhan Company" with former employees of that factory. In 1977, he obtained the first glove invention patents in Taiwan and the United States for the Shark Ski Gloves, which inspired the entire concept of the museum. In 1984, he wrote the only professional book on gloves titled "Glove Industry," which has gained recognition and respect from glove professionals worldwide. In 1985, glove expert Chen Yi-yi established "Yi Zhan Sports Goods Co., Ltd." in Yuanlin City, Changhua County, focusing on producing bulk glove exports, such as ski gloves, thermal and decorative gloves, down gloves, goalkeeper gloves, motorcycle gloves, as well as work and gardening gloves. Between 1988 and 1995, Taiwan's glove industry faced high costs and labor shortages, leading many manufacturers to relocate to China, Thailand, Indonesia, or switch industries, with some factories shutting down. However, Yi Zhan Company remained steadfast and continued to operate in Taiwan. Business operators not only create revenue but also have a responsibility and obligation to preserve the cultural heritage and pass on the technology of the industry, which inspired the establishment of the Taiwan Glove Museum. Mr. Chen designed all the decorations and exhibits in and outside the museum. 1st Floor: Upon entering the museum lobby, you will see the world's largest handmade glove sewing machine, with guides introducing the history of gloves and demonstrating the production of gloves on-site. 2nd Floor: The stone and shell collection area integrates the glove expert's creations worth exploring. There is also an experience area for different types of gloves and a DIY classroom. 3rd Floor: The observation deck offers over 220 degrees of close-up views of the circular high-speed rail, allowing you to see the train for nearly two minutes. The museum embodies the commitment to preserving cultural assets and passing on technology while inspiring Yi Zhan to establish the Taiwan Glove Museum, continuing to operate steadfastly in Taiwan.
