Toyota Old Street Introduction
Feng Tian Old Street is located on Xinzhong Road in Neipu Township, Pingtung County. This old street was once the most prosperous commercial area of Feng Tian Village. Feng Tian Village is an ancient settlement that developed in the mid-18th century. Along Feng Tian Old Street, there are many orderly Baroque-style Western buildings, which gradually formed a long-term settlement lifestyle, making it one of the few street scenes appearing in a village-like form. To this day, Feng Tian Old Street still retains about 70% of its ancient houses. In addition to being planned as a recreational spot with bike paths by the Six Teams Hakka Cultural Park, the area also enhances its artistic ambiance through installation art. The street, full of traditional temple courtyards and nostalgic shop styles, features several old stores built during the Japanese occupation era. These buildings blend Taiwan's red brick tiles, Western Baroque, and modern architectural characteristics from the Showa period in Japan, presenting a unique local culture when contrasted with the nearby dusk market. For instance, "Pu Hsing Grocery Store," "Song Rong Hardware," "Mei Ya Beauty Salon," "Rong Sheng Wu Clothing Store," and the "Neipu District Agricultural Association Feng Tian Office" all showcase the wash stone architectural style of the Showa period. There is also the currently operational "Kun Xie Sheng Grocery Store," which was built between 1920 and 1924, featuring a facade made of red bricks. The parapet and roof are adorned in Baroque style, with varied decorative designs, especially its artistic relief patterns, which are a major highlight. Built in 1924, "Hong Yun Xiang Grocery Store" employs a layout and facade decorations in the Baroque architectural style. The eagle pattern on the gable, the broad parapet, and the classical European-style horizontal bands, keystones, columns, and round arched windows between the floors are all magnificent architectural beauties to behold.
