Toyoten Old Street Introduction
Feng Tian Old Street is located on New Zhong Road in Neipu Township, Pingtung County. This old street was once the most prosperous commercial area of Feng Tian Village. Feng Tian Village is an ancient settlement that developed in the mid-18th century. Along Feng Tian Old Street, many Baroque-style Western mansions stand in an orderly manner, gradually forming a long-standing residential community, making it one of the few streets that appear in a village format. Today, Feng Tian Old Street retains about 70% of its old residential buildings. Besides being planned by the Liu Dui Hakka Cultural Park as a bicycle path and recreational area, it also enhances the artistic atmosphere of Feng Tian Old Street through installation art. Filled with traditional temple courtyards and nostalgic street house styles, Feng Tian Old Street has several old shops built during the Japanese colonial period on both sides. These buildings combine Taiwan's red brick tiles, Western Baroque, and modern artistic architectural features from the Shōwa period in Japan, creating a unique local culture when contrasted with the nearby dusk market. Shops such as "Pu Hsing Grocery Store," "Song Rong Hardware," "Mei Ya Beauty Salon," "Rong Sheng Wu Clothing Store," and "Neipu Agricultural Association Feng Tian Office" showcase the Shōwa period's wash stone architectural style. Additionally, the still-operating "Kun Hsieh Sheng Grocery Store," built around 1920 to 1924, features a façade made of red bricks for the flooring, while the parapets and gable are adorned with Baroque-style decorative elements, characterized by diverse ornamental designs, especially the artistic relief patterns that stand out. The "Hong Yun Xiang Grocery Store," built in 1924, adopts a spacious layout and Baroque-style façade decoration, with impressive architectural beauty found in eagle motifs on the gable, broad parapets, and classical European horizontal bands, keystones, pilasters, and round arch windows between floors.
