Jinshuiying National Trail Introduction

The Jinchuiying Ancient Trail is located in the broadleaf forests of southern Taiwan at a low to medium elevation, with a total length of approximately 13.2 kilometers. It is the lowest ancient trail among all crossing the Central Mountain Range. Currently, the western section of the trail primarily follows the Dahan Forest Road uphill, and by car, one can access up to 23.5 kilometers of the forest road. The eastern section is officially planned as the Jinchuiying National Trail. This historical trail has served as a trading route for indigenous peoples for hundreds of years, as well as for Japanese, foreign missionaries, and officials from the Qing dynasty, and it contains many cultural heritage sites including the Chushui Slope Ruins and the Jinchuiying Station. From high vantage points, one can overlook the northern and southern Dawu Mountains. To access the Jinchuiying National Trail, one must first apply for a mountain entry permit, which can be done online or in person at the Guichong Police Station. Walking into the Jinchuiying Trail, one is greeted by lush greenery and fresh air, as if stepping into a hidden paradise. It is a place to explore rare plants, visit historical sites, and experience cultural sentiments. Every winter, one may also witness thousands of purple butterflies gathering for the season at the eastern end of the trail. Due to the humid climate and ecological environment, it has become an important habitat for wild flora and fauna, hence designated as the Jinchuiying Important Wildlife Habitat, and the Dawan Taiwan Fir Nature Reserve and Dawan Taiwan Cypress Nature Reserve. In spring, flowers bloom vibrantly, and sunlight filters through the leaves, creating a splendid scene with colorful blossoms alongside greenery. Accompanied by the fragrance of flowers, both visual and olfactory senses are rejuvenated, allowing one to absorb the essence of nature, escape the urban hustle, and engage in casual conversations with friends on this healing trail, releasing stress within the green oasis and restoring the body and spirit. It is highly recommended to take a walk along the trail and enjoy the beauty of nature! It is suggested to choose a one-way trip; if one chooses to return the same day, the total distance will be around 40 kilometers, which may be a bit burdensome.
