Ruisui Hot Spring Introduction

Ruisui Hot Springs has a very unique and rare mineral composition, being the only carbonate spring in Taiwan rich in iron and barium. When the iron comes into contact with the air and oxidizes, it forms a layer of yellowish, slightly rusty crystallized substance on the water surface, known as "湯花" (soup flower) or "温泉花" (hot spring flower). The hot spring water appears golden yellow and is renowned alongside Japan's Arima Onsen near Kobe, having been referred to by the Japanese during the colonial period as "Golden Spring." Today, it attracts many Japanese tourists who love soaking in hot springs. The water at Ruisui Hot Springs is alkaline, and the local residents claim that couples who bathe in this mildly alkaline spring have a higher chance of having boys, hence it is also called the "Spring of Boys." Ruisui Hot Springs is famous far and wide and is a great place for soaking in the hot springs along the Hualien-Taitung Valley, being the only "carbonate spring" known as the "Hero Spring" in all of Taiwan.
