Nanya Rock Introduction
Nanya Rock is known as one of Taiwan's 36 Secret Wonders, located between kilometer 78 and 95 of Provincial Highway 2. The Northeast Coast National Scenic Area stretches from Nanya in Ruifang District, New Taipei City, to Beigang in Yilan County, following the coastline and mountains. Except for the sandy beaches at Yanliao and Fulong, which are coastal accumulative landforms, the area predominantly features coastal erosion landforms. Due to alternating soft and hard rock layers and years of erosion from strong winds and giant waves brought by the Northeast monsoon, the coastline presents a unique landscape of bays and peninsulas, as well as bizarre rock formations. It possesses the richest geomorphological and geological resources in New Taipei City, particularly the uniquely patterned rocks that appear painted. Most of the rocks here are sandstone, and their varying hardness leads to different rates of erosion by sea winds, creating a variety of unique rocky landscapes with uneven surfaces and depths. Among these are the famous Ice Cream Rock, Bamboo Shoot Rock, and Seagull Rock. During sunrise and sunset, many photographers and tourists are drawn here to capture the rich geological landscapes of New Taipei City.
