Nanya Rock Introduction
Nanya Area, known for its beauty as one of Taiwan's 36 secret landscapes, is located along Provincial Highway No. 2 from kilometer 78 to 95. The Northeast Coast National Scenic Area stretches from Nanya in Ruifang District, New Taipei City, to Beigangkou in Yilan County, following the coastline and mountains. Aside from the sandy beaches in the salt kiln and Fulong areas, the region primarily features coastal erosion landforms. Due to the alternating layers of hard and soft rocks and the long-term erosion from strong winds and massive waves brought by the northeast monsoon, the coastline presents unique scenery with bays and promontories, as well as distinctive rocky formations. This area possesses the richest geological and geomorphological resources in New Taipei City, with remarkable patterns resembling paintings being one of its most special features. As the rocks are mostly sandstone, the varying hardness of the layers results in differing rates of erosion by sea winds, creating unique rock landscapes with uneven surfaces and varying depths. Among the attractions are the Ice Cream Rock, Bamboo Shoot Rock, and the famous Seal Rock, which attract many photography enthusiasts and tourists during sunrise and sunset, allowing them to witness the wealth of geological and geomorphological resources that New Taipei City has to offer.
