Nanya Rock Introduction
Nanya Chih Yan, known as one of Taiwan's 36 secret scenic spots, is located along Taiwan's Provincial Highway 2 from kilometer 78 to kilometer 95. The Northeast Coast National Scenic Area stretches from Nanya in Ruifang District, New Taipei City, to Beigang in Yilan County, following the coastline beside the mountains. Except for the coastal sandy beaches in the Xialiao and Fulong areas, the entire region is characterized by coastal erosion geology. Due to the alternating soft and hard rock layers and the long-term erosion caused by the strong winds and waves from the northeast monsoon, the coastline displays unique scenery with a series of bays and rocky outcrops. It has the richest geological and geomorphological resources in New Taipei City, with particularly unique patterned rocks resembling paintings. The rocks here are mostly sandstone, and varying degrees of hardness lead to different rates of erosion and resistance to sea wind, creating various uneven, deep, and shallow unique rock formations. Notable features include Ice Cream Rock, Bamboo Shoot Rock, and the famous Seal Rock, which attract many photographers and visitors at sunrise and sunset, showcasing the richest geological landscape resources in New Taipei City.
