Nan'ya Jade Rock Introduction
Nanya Que Rock, known as one of Taiwan's 36 secret scenic spots, is located along Taiwan Route 2, between kilometers 78 and 95. The Northeast Coast National Scenic Area stretches from Nanya in Ruifang District, New Taipei City, to Beigangkou in Yilan County, following the mountains alongside the sea. Except for the sandy beaches in the Yanziao and Fulong areas, the entire area is characterized by coastal erosion topography. Due to the alternating hard and soft rock layers, combined with years of erosion from the strong winds and massive waves brought by the northeast monsoon, the coastline presents a unique landscape of bays and capes, and spectacular rock formations. This area boasts the most abundant geological and topographical resources in New Taipei City, particularly with its uniquely painted patterns that are one of its most distinctive features. Because the rocks here are primarily sandstone with varying hardness, the rate of erosion and resistance by the sea wind also differs, resulting in a variety of uneven and uniquely shaped rock features. Iconic formations such as Ice Cream Rock, Bamboo Shoot Rock, and the famous Sea Dog Rock attract many photographers and tourists, especially during sunrise and sunset, showcasing the richest geological and topographical resources in New Taipei City.
