Nanya Rock Introduction
Nanya Qiyan, known as one of the 36 secret wonders of Taiwan, is located between the 78th and 95th kilometers of Highway 2. The Northeast Coastal Scenic Area stretches from Nanya in Ruifang District, New Taipei City, to Beigang in Yilan County, following the coastline along the mountains. Aside from the coastal sedimentary sandy beaches around Yanliao and Fulong, the entire area is predominantly characterized by coastal erosion formations. Due to the alternating layers of hard and soft rock, combined with years of erosion from the strong winds and massive waves brought by the northeast monsoon, the coastline presents a unique landscape of bays and capes, as well as peculiar rock formations. It boasts the richest topographical and geological resources in New Taipei City, particularly the uniquely patterned formations that resemble paintings, making this area especially distinctive. Since most of the rocks here are sandstone with varying hardness levels, they are eroded at different rates and resistances by the sea winds, resulting in an array of unique rock features with uneven surfaces and varying depths. Notable formations include the Ice Cream Rock, Bamboo Shoot Rock, and the famous Sea Dog Rock, which attract many photographers and tourists during sunrise and sunset, showcasing the rich topographical and geological resources of New Taipei City.
