Taishan Doll Industry Cultural Center Introduction
The promotion of doll culture in Taishan is closely linked to the industrial and social history of Taishan in the 1950s. In 1967, the Meining factory, which manufactured Barbie dolls, established its operations in Taishan, inadvertently creating the impression that "Taishan equals doll manufacturing." The Meining dolls accompanied Taishan throughout its history, and during the era of contract manufacturing in Taiwan, the globally renowned toy company Mattel set up a factory in Taishan. The production of Barbie dolls, from material manufacturing to packaging and export, was entirely completed in Taishan until 1987. Later, in 2004, the Taishan Doll Cultural Industry Museum was established, showcasing the history of the Meining factory and the transformation of Taishan's industry, as well as displaying Barbie dolls and related artifacts, along with representative collectible dolls from Europe, America, Japan, and Russia. Each design of the doll clothing blends traditional costume features with innovative fashion elements, making the museum worth a visit.
