National Center for Film and Documentaries Introduction
The National Center for Film and Audiovisual Heritage, formerly known as the National Film Center and the National Film Archive, is the only administrative body in Taiwan dedicated to the collection of film and audiovisual assets. It is a formal member of the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF) with the mission to enhance the collection, research, restoration, and promotion of audiovisual assets, while realizing the public accessibility of these resources. The new building of the National Center for Film and Audiovisual Heritage officially opened in New Taipei City in January 2022. The exterior features a curved metal façade that embodies a sense of technology and futurism, while the design of the sun shading louvers reflects a sense of the passage of time. The center houses approximately 20,000 film reels and nearly 400,000 audiovisual artifacts, and it has a large auditorium with a capacity of 200 and a small screening room for 50, both equipped to the highest standards in Taiwan to provide an optimal viewing experience.
