Pastor's House and Maiden's Tower Introduction
The pastor's house was built in 1906, characterized by its distinct red brick arches that look even more beautiful against the backdrop of green trees. The garden is lush and green in spring and summer, with cherry blossom trees planted, offering a different scenery in winter. It is a perfect private spot to enjoy the sunset over Tamsui. The architectural features include a red brick exterior, slanted roof, arcades, and high steps, and it is colloquially known as the "Pastor's House" due to the two pastors who once resided here. The Pastor's House and the Maiden House are two arcade-style western buildings with red brick exteriors, slanted roofs, arcades, and high steps, exuding nostalgic charm. They are located directly across from the main entrance of Tamsui Gentleman University and are part of the university, open only during school terms. As it is not a public tourist attraction, visitors are requested to maintain silence and decorum while inside, allowing them to quietly appreciate the century-old elegance of these two red brick western-style buildings. The Maiden House was established by Pastor William Wu on the west side of Mackay's Spanish-style residence, where it was personally designed and supervised by him, with the renowned carpenter Huang Ashu hired for construction. The materials used were bricks from Xiamen and Fujian cypress. Since the initial residents were high-class ladies, it became known as the "Maiden House."
