Presbyterian Church and Girl's Dormitory Introduction
The Pastor's Residence was built in 1906 and features a distinctive red brick archway that looks even more beautiful amidst the greenery. In spring and summer, the garden is lush with greenery and also has cherry blossom trees, while winter offers a different view altogether. It is a hidden gem suitable for watching the sunset over Tamsui. The architectural characteristics include a red brick exterior, sloped roof, colonnade, and high steps. The residence is commonly known as "Pastor's Residence" because it was once home to two pastors. The Pastor's Residence and the Maiden's Lodge are two colonnaded Western-style buildings distinguished by their red brick exteriors, sloped roofs, colonnades, and high steps, exuding a nostalgic charm. The buildings are located directly opposite the main entrance of Tamsui University and are part of the university’s property. They are only open during the school semester. As they are not public tourist attractions, visitors are requested to maintain silence and observe visiting etiquette while quietly experiencing the century-old elegance of these two red brick buildings. The Maiden's Lodge was named after High Gu and Jin Gu, the first residents, leading the local people of Tamsui to call it "Maiden's Lodge." It was built on the west side of Mackay's residence by Pastor William Wu, who personally designed and supervised the construction, hiring the well-known builder Huang A-shu at the time. The materials used were bricks from Xiamen and Taiwan fir.
