Tada Eikichi Memorial House Introduction
The former residence of Eikichi Tada is located halfway up the Pu-Ding Mountain, facing south with hills behind and steep slopes in front. The site is elevated, offering a view of the beautiful scenery along the Tamsui River and Guanyin Mountain. The original location served as the farmland for the Xuehai Academy during the Qing Dynasty, and the current address is No. 19 Mackay Street, near the Tamsui Library, Little White House, and Cultural Elementary School. The architecture is rich in Japanese style and is notable for being the first private residence in Taiwan to have running water, which marked a significant milestone in the development of Taiwan's water supply system at that time and is one of the residence's most historically significant features. In April 2005, Eikichi Tada's former residence was designated as a municipal historic site by New Taipei City. Visitors can experience a feeling of being in Japan without traveling abroad, making it a great spot for couples to take photos. Additionally, due to its elevated position, it offers a stunning view of the Tamsui River and Guanyin Mountain. The building is constructed with red cypress wood, and the rain boards on the exterior, black tiles on the roof, and the flat-framed ceiling inside have all been preserved to this day.
