Sandiao Ling Station Introduction
Sandy Cave is an area located between Ruifang District and Shuangxi District in New Taipei City, rich in tourism resources such as the Sandy Cave Historic Trail and Sandy Cave Eco-Friendly Tunnel. The Sandy Cave Station, which opened in 1922, is an important transportation hub for the area, situated on the left bank of the Keelung River, connecting to Hohorong to the north and Mudan to the south. It is the only station on the Taiwan Railways that is not connected to a highway. Traveling by train to Sandy Cave, visitors can enjoy the magnificent valley views of the upper Keelung River and the fascinating potholes in the river. Nestled into the mountain wall, the secluded station with no road access is described as “Majestic peaks stand before and behind, a small paradise in the Keelung River valley.” A railway travel guide during the Japanese occupation praised the exquisite scenery of Sandy Cave Station. As the only station on the Taiwan Railways not connected to a road, it is one of the well-known secret stations of Taiwan Railways, attracting many railway enthusiasts and mountain hikers to visit. Visitors can fully appreciate various trains at Sandy Cave Station, which is a third-class station served only by local trains. However, this station serves as a junction between the Taiwan Railway Yilan Line and the Pingxi Line, allowing passengers to see various express and local trains on the Eastern Trunk Line and encounter local trains running along the Pingxi Branch Line. On the platform, passengers can enjoy the interplay of light and shadow from trains passing through the Ming Tunnel and the scenic railway views heading toward Jing Tong or Yilan.
