Sandiao Ling Station Introduction
Sandiaoling is a region located between Ruifang District and Shuangxi District in New Taipei City, featuring rich tourism resources such as the Sandiaoling Historic Trail and the Sandiaoling Eco-Friendly Tunnel. The Sandiaoling Station, which was opened in 1922, is an important transportation hub in this area, located on the left bank of the Keelung River, connecting to Hohuan in the north and Mudan in the south. It is the only train station in Taiwan that lacks a connecting road. Riding the train to Sandiaoling allows passengers to enjoy the magnificent valley scenery and the unique potholes in the upper reaches of the Keelung River. Nestled in the mountains, the secretive station with no road access is described as “a little paradise in the Keelung River gorge, surrounded by towering peaks.” During the Japanese occupation, railway travel guides praised the breathtaking scenery of Sandiaoling Station, which is unique for being embedded in the mountains on the left bank of the Keelung River, making it one of Taiwan's famous hidden stations, attracting many railway enthusiasts and hikers. Sandiaoling Station is classified as a third-class station on Taiwan Railway and only serves local trains. However, it is the junction of the Taiwan Railway Yilan Line and the Pingxi Line, allowing visitors to see various fast and slow trains from the Taiwan Railway's Eastern Main Line as well as local trains operating on the Pingxi branch line. Travelers can enjoy the interplay of light and shadow as trains pass through the famous tunnel, along with the scenic rail landscapes heading towards Jingtong or Yilan directions.
