Sandiao Ling Eco-Friendly Tunnel Introduction
Between Ruifang Station and Shuangxi Station, there are a total of nine old tunnels, leading to the Taiwanese saying "A coin drills through nine holes." Among them, four old tunnels have been transformed into bike paths. The ecological-friendly Sandiaoling Tunnel, which has been reopened after 30 years of abandonment as part of the old Yilan Line railway, is 3.19 kilometers long and features Taiwan's first "reinforced concrete bike path." The designer utilized a pool design that transitions the tunnel entrance from dark to light, creating a stunning mirrored reflection against the lush greenery of Sandiaoling Mountain. There’s even a chance to encounter a train along the way. To ensure safety for two-way traffic from the San Guazi Tunnel to the cliff-hanging bridge, bicycles must be walked through. The Sandiaoling Tunnel and San Guazi Tunnel bike paths connect the tourist routes between Shuangxi Mudan and Ruifang Sandiaoling, representing the latest route in the Youth Mountain-Sea Line low-carbon tourism initiative. To minimize traffic impact and considering the limited space inside the tunnel, visitors must apply for entry online in advance (click here to go). There are informative signs along the route explaining the site characteristics, and guided tours are available upon reservation. Visitors can apply for guided tours on the reservation website.
