Sandiao Ling Eco-Friendly Tunnel Introduction
There are a total of nine old tunnels between Ruifang Station and Shuangxi Station, leading to the Taiwanese proverb "spend a dime to drill nine holes." Four of these old tunnels have been converted into bike paths. The ecological-friendly Sandiaoling Tunnel, reopened after being abandoned for 30 years, is 3.19 kilometers long and features Taiwan's first "reinforced concrete bike path." The designer has utilized a pool design to create a stunning mirror-like reflection, transitioning from darkness to light at the tunnel entrance, harmonizing with the lush green scenery of Sandiaoling. There is even a chance to encounter a train. To ensure safety for two-way traffic from the Sanguazai Tunnel to the Hanging Bridge, cyclists are required to walk and push their bikes. The Sandiaoling Tunnel and Sanguazai Tunnel bike paths connect the tourism routes of Shuangxi Mudan and Ruifang Sandiaoling, forming the latest low-carbon travel route of the Youth Mountain-Sea Line. To minimize traffic impact and considering the limited space within the tunnels, visitors must apply for entry in advance online (click here to go). Informational signs along the route explain the site’s features, and guided tour services are available on-site; the public can apply for a guided tour through the reservation website.
