Sandiaoling Eco-Friendly Tunnel Introduction
From Ruifang Station to Shuangxi Station, there are a total of 9 old tunnels, giving rise to the Taiwanese proverb "a coin drills nine holes." Among these, 4 old tunnels have been transformed into bicycle paths. The San Diego ecological-friendly tunnel, which has been reopened after 30 years of abandonment, stretches 3.19 kilometers and is the first "reinforced concrete bicycle path" in Taiwan. The designer used a water pool design to allow the tunnel entrance to transition from darkness to light, creating a stunning mirror reflection that harmonizes with the lush green mountains of San Diego. There’s a chance to encounter a train while traveling through. Due to safety considerations for bi-directional passage from the San Guazi Tunnel to the suspended walkway, bicycles must be walked through. The San Diego Tunnel and San Guazi Tunnel bicycle paths connect the tourism routes of Shuangxi Mu Dan and Ruifang San Diego, forming the latest route in the low-carbon travel of the Youth Mountain and Sea Line. To minimize traffic impact and considering the limited space in the tunnel, visitors must apply online for entry in advance (click here to proceed). Along the way, there are informational signs explaining the characteristics of the area, and guided tour services are available on-site. People can apply for guided tours through the reservation website.
