Wufeng Mushroom Industry Academic Hall Introduction
The Wufeng District Farmers' Association established the Wufeng Mushroom Museum, covering an area of 400 ping (approximately 1,320 square meters), in 1998. It is the only mushroom museum in Taiwan and one of only two in the world (the other located in the Netherlands). The museum provides detailed information about mushrooms worldwide, especially Taiwanese varieties, making it a valuable knowledge hub. Since the successful cultivation of the first button mushroom in Taiwan in 1953 at the Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute, Wufeng District has dominated the mushroom industry in Taiwan since the early 1950s, aided by government support, which has led to Wufeng being recognized as the "Mushroom Kingdom." In 2022, with the efforts of Executive Director Huang Ching-Chien of the Wufeng District Farmers' Association, the museum underwent a renovation, supported by the Council of Agriculture of the Executive Yuan and the Taichung City Government. Collaborating with the Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute, National Chung Hsing University, Asia University, Chaoyang University of Technology, the National Museum of Natural Science, and various experts and practitioners in the Taiwanese mushroom industry, the museum was rebranded as the "Wufeng Mushroom Industry-Academic Center." Additionally, on the fourth floor, there is a "Taiwan Agricultural and Fisheries Products Exhibition Hall" that showcases high-quality biotech products, cultural creations, and various practical goods made from locally sourced mushrooms, allowing the public to better understand industry trends. The hall also features curated premium groups of local agricultural and specialty products, enabling visitors to enrich their knowledge of mushrooms while simultaneously purchasing high-quality Taiwanese agricultural products.
