Qishan Wude Hall Introduction

During World War II, Japan promoted militarism by advocating the Japanese national spirit of "Bushido" and constructing dojos across various regions for Japanese military police and youth to practice judo and kendo, promoting martial arts. The Chiayi Martial Arts Hall, built in 1934, is located beneath Gushan Park and features traditional Japanese temple-style architecture. However, as many Japanese temples emulate Tang Dynasty architecture, the Martial Arts Hall also possesses a strong Tang Dynasty influence. In 1994, the hall was destroyed by a major fire, and the renovated transparent glass canopy could not blend with the original Japanese ambiance of the building. At the end of 2014, after a second reconstruction, the Martial Arts Hall finally restored its historical appearance. It is currently managed by the Chiayi Banana City Art Association, with the main building planned as an exhibition space, cultural market, lecture venue, and talent teaching area.
