Chishan Martial Arts Hall Introduction
During World War II, Japan promoted militarism by advocating the Japanese national spirit of "Bushido" and constructing dojos across various regions for Japanese military personnel and youth to practice judo and kendo, thereby promoting martial arts. The Chiayi Budo Hall, built in 1934, is located beneath Gushan Park and features traditional Japanese temple-style architecture. However, since many Japanese temples emulate Tang Dynasty architecture, the Budo Hall also possesses a significant Tang Dynasty style. In 1994, the Budo Hall was destroyed by a fire, and after renovations, the transparent glass canopy could not blend with the existing Japanese architectural atmosphere. By the end of 2014, it underwent a second reconstruction, restoring its original historical appearance. It is currently managed by the Chiayi Jiao Cheng Art Association, with the main building planned as an exhibition space, creative market, special lectures, and talent teaching.
