Qishan Martial Arts Hall Introduction

During Japan's initiation of World War II, in order to promote militarism, they not only strongly advocated the Japanese national spirit known as "Bushido" but also constructed dojos across various locations, allowing Japanese soldiers, police, and youth to practice judo and kendo, thus promoting martial arts. The Qishan Martial Arts Hall, built in 1934, is located beneath Gushan Park. It features traditional Japanese temple-style architecture; however, as many Japanese temple halls were influenced by Tang Dynasty architecture, the Martial Arts Hall also possesses a strong Tang Dynasty style. In 1994, the Martial Arts Hall was destroyed by a major fire. After repairs, the new transparent glass-roofed structure did not blend well with the traditional Japanese ambiance of the old building. At the end of 2014, after a second round of reconstruction, the Martial Arts Hall finally restored its original historical appearance. It is currently managed by the Qishan Banana City Art Association, which has planned the main building as an exhibition space, creative market, theme lectures, and talent teaching activities.
