Chishan Martial Arts Hall Introduction
During World War II, Japan promoted militarism and advocated for the Japanese national spirit of "Bushido." This included building dojos across various locations for Japanese military personnel and youth to practice judo and kendo, thereby promoting martial arts. The Qishan Martial Arts Hall, built in 1934, is located below Gushan Park and was constructed in a traditional Japanese temple style. However, as many Japanese temples mimic Tang dynasty architecture, the Martial Arts Hall also exhibits a strong Tang dynasty influence. In 1994, the hall was destroyed by a fire, and after renovation, the glass curtain roof did not blend well with the original Japanese architectural ambiance. By the end of 2014, after a second reconstruction, the Martial Arts Hall finally returned to its original historical appearance. It is now managed by the Qishan Jiao Cheng Art Association, which has repurposed the main structure as an exhibition space, creative market, special lectures, and talent teaching.
