Meinong Folk Village Introduction
Meinong is the largest Hakka settlement in Kaohsiung and belongs to the right unit of the Hakka civil defense organization "Liudui" in the Gaoping River Basin. It is a small town in southern Taiwan rich in Hakka cultural characteristics and has a simple and honest folk customs. Unlike the densely populated Ciying next door, Meinong retains a leisurely feel from yesteryears. The Meinong Folk Village fully preserves Hakka culture, integrating local industry elites to introduce the cultural geography, living customs, and rich tourism content of Meinong. The architecture of the Meinong Folk Village combines tobacco barns and traditional courtyard homes, encapsulating the essence of Meinong’s Hakka culture. Visitors can enjoy and even try their hand at making traditional crafts such as oil paper umbrellas, hand-thrown pottery, grinding tea, and tasting classic local desserts and Hakka cuisine. Walking into the Meinong Folk Village feels like stepping into a Hakka rural community, with small ponds shaped like ancient farming tools such as ox carts and stone mills flanking the entrance, adding to its antique charm and making it a place where people linger.
