East Gate Tower Introduction
During the Qing Dynasty, Meinong Township, centered on Yong'an Street, was surrounded by fences, with the only city gate tower built at the East Gate. The East Gate Tower is the most well-known landmark of Meinong, with a very unique design. It was first constructed in 1755 by Hakka people who valued education, wishing for their descendants to excel, and built the inner structure at the East Gate. In 1937, it was rebuilt imitating the Qing Dynasty's dragon-beamed phoenix pavilion appearance, standing tall and majestic. The gate tower features the four large characters "Daqi Wenming," symbolizing the rich life of the people of Meinong. The East Gate Tower is located at the end of Yong'an Road, along the main axis that runs through the township, witnessing the history of Meinong's establishment. Below, the Meinong River was once a public laundry area for women.
