Chihshan Bridge Introduction

Qishan is located at the throat of Kaohsiung City, serving as a transfer station between the Kaohsiung Plain and the mountainous area. Therefore, the Qishan Bridge, which connects both banks of the Nanzi Stream, holds great importance. The Morakot typhoon in 2009 severely damaged the Qishan Bridge, causing significant transportation inconvenience and economic impact. The new Qishan Bridge is designed with a landmark single-tower cable-stayed bridge concept, measuring 535 meters in length and 22 meters in width. The use of a long-span cantilever construction method reduces the number of bridge piers, and the bridge is adorned with 13 pairs of symmetrical stay cables. Its design incorporates the imagery of banana wicker baskets from Meinong and Qishan. After its completion and opening to traffic at the end of 2010, the elegantly structured bridge blends seamlessly with the beautiful natural scenery of Qiwai Mountain and Nanzi Stream, enhanced by LED lighting for nighttime projection and illumination, becoming a new landmark of Qishan.
