Lukou Old Catholic Church Cultural Center Introduction
The Laohukou Catholic Church was built in 1959, initiated by Father Manciang, an Italian priest. The main structure is a reinforced concrete building, elevated on a small hill. The facade features vertical dividing lines, which accentuate the holiness and grandeur of the church. Between the main entrance and the two sets of stairs, a niche-like space is cleverly created to house a statue of the Virgin Mary, becoming the focal point of the church. As the old street declined, the church fell into disrepair for a time. However, through various efforts, the church agreed to change the use of Laohukou Catholic Church and allowed for renovation and repurposing. In addition to the main building, the priest's residence has also been transformed into a community center, which will further integrate Laohukou Catholic Church with the surrounding areas of Laohukou and the old street.
