Jin Guang Cheng Cultural Center Introduction
Jin Guang Cheng Cultural Center is located in Guanxi Township, Hsinchu County, and bears the local history of land reclamation and cultural development. The "Jin Guang Cheng" reclamation group was established in the 13th year of Guangxu (1887), with local pioneer Cai Hualiang serving as the head of the reclamation. Together with Zhou Yuanbao, Zhang Xiuqin, Xu Alian, and others, they responded to the Qing Dynasty government's policy of "opening mountains and pacifying indigenous people" and began the reclamation of the upper Xiaoliao Creek area. They collectively established the "Jin Guang Cheng Reclamation Group" and divided the pioneering organization into four divisions: "Yuan, Heng, Li, Zhen," allocating land through a lottery system and engaging in timber harvesting and camphor production, leading to the present-day place names such as Siliang, Qiliang, Balian, and Shilian. In addition to the camphor industry, the Guanxi area also developed coal mining. As the number of mining workers increased, the government established Renhe Elementary School to promote education for local residents. However, with the transformation of the rural economy and population outflow, the once prosperous "Renhe Village" was abolished in the 67th year of the Republic of China (1978) and merged with Minghu Village (now known as Nanh Lake area) to form "Dongshan Village." Renhe Elementary School was officially closed in the 76th year of the Republic of China (1987) due to a decrease in students. To preserve local historical culture and commemorate the efforts of the Jin Guang Cheng Reclamation Group and pioneers, the Guanxi Township Office submitted a "Local Cultural Center Project" to the Council for Cultural Affairs in the 92nd year of the Republic of China (2003), revitalizing the old site of Renhe Elementary School and transforming it into the present-day Jin Guang Cheng Cultural Center. The center features static exhibitions on culture and ecology and regularly hosts art exhibitions and small cultural activities, becoming an important base for cultural preservation and promotion in the Guanxi area.
