Hehuan Mountain National Forest Recreation Area Introduction
Hehuan Mountain National Forest Recreation Area is located at the border of Hualien County and Nantou County, with an elevation ranging from 2,300 to 3,400 meters and covering an area of 457.61 hectares. It is the highest national forest recreation area in Taiwan. The terrain is steep, with mountain peaks and deep valleys, serving as a central area connecting the Hehuan mountain range and Qilai Mountain. This region is ideal for hiking activities, with the majestic Hehuan mountain range as the main attraction. Along the trails, visitors can enjoy views of the Qilai mountain range, Central Peak, Nanhu Mountain, and Yushan. The area boasts diverse topography and abundant rainfall, making it rich in alpine endemic plants. In spring, visitors can see Yushan rhododendrons and red-hair rhododendrons, while summer brings blooming Taiwan lilies, knotweed, goldenrod, and Yushan snow grass. In autumn, Taiwan aconite and Yushan dianthus can be spotted, set against the backdrop of lush alpine arrow bamboo grasslands and pristine fir forests, creating a paradise on earth. In winter, the low temperatures bring snow, transforming the landscape into a silver world. With Provincial Highway 14甲 passing through and intersecting with the Cross-Island Highway, it is the best place in Taiwan for snow viewing.
